Rex felt like they were being watched—something he had felt for a few hours now. The battalion had been moving through the dense forestation of Umbara behind General Krell, antsy. They were all antsy. Joseta walked beside him, heavy breathing coming from her helmet. Beneath it, he could see sweat slide down her neck, her braided hair all frayed from its weaves. She was more experienced in the sky—she was struggling down here. His heart panged. He didn't want to subject her to these hardships that war brought. But, here she was per the command/request of General Tetra. It was not like Rex could send a formal request to send Joseta back. Both Tetra and Josie would have his head.

"Quicken that pace, battalion!" General Krell's voice bellowed, snapping Rex from his thoughts. "This isn't some training course on Kamino."

He was right. Training courses on Kamino had air-conditioning.

Fives picked up his pace to match his as Krell marched further ahead. "The, uh, new general has a way with words."

"More like an attack of words," Joseta grumbled, wiping sweat from the back of her neck with her gloved hand.

As much as Rex wasn't fond of the General's 'way' with anything, they had to live up to the standard that Anakin had held them. "He's just trying to keep us on schedule."

A scoff escaped Fives. "By raising everyone's ire?"

"Not to mention being outright disrespectful," Joseta said, flexing her hands as she quickened her pace to keep up.

Rex shook his head. "Either way, he is in charge and we've got a job to do," Rex said, chills running up his neck. He still felt like they were being watched. He looked up at the General who towered over the clones. "Just treat him with respect and we will all get along fine."

"Just wait till I report to my mom, though," Joseta said, tone sharp as she shook her head. "The Clone Protection Rights Committee will get a kick outta this—"

"Get down!" a brother yelled out as large ships flew out of the treeline above them. No—they were creatures. No doubt native to Umbara with how they look otherworldly. Pulling out his pistols, Rex started shooting at the manta-ray-like beings, their screeches filling the air like sirens.

Before much damage could be done either way, General Krell leapt into the air, landing on top of one before ripping the winged-arms off of them. As they skidded to the forest floor, Krell stabbed it with not one, but two sabers. He rushes to the last creature, cutting it up.

Rex stared in both fear and admiration at the precision that the General ended the fight. No wonder he was feared amongst the ranks.

But in an instant, his admiration fled as Krell turned to face them, anger written all over his face. "Anyone else want to stop and play with the animals?" He looked directly at Rex who couldn't respond quick enough. "Didn't think so."
