Rex tapped his fingers on the table at 79s, his eyes stuck on the door. Joseta should be here any moment. She had commed him when her shuttle landed on Coruscant and this was their rendezvous. And he was growing impatient.
"She'll be here," he muttered to himself, half expecting Fives or Echo to answer. He closed his mouth sharply. Echo was dead and Fives didn't want to be here without him. Giggles was off somewhere under the guise of Crest and Jesse was off flirting with a mirialan in the corner. He was lonely and it struck him odd in a place so crowded.
He tapped his heels now, heaving a sigh. His hand breezed over his pocket where the ring was. It wasn't much. A simple band, but he needed to ask her. With this war, he had to make sure she knew how he felt. With how many brothers he lost, he couldn't imagine losing her.
The door slid open, revealing Joseta. Her hair had grown out more and was down to her shoulders, though the sides were pulled back in braids and knotted behind her head. It framed her face so differently, drawing attention to her features. She was beautiful, but that was nothing new.
Rex stood up, making his way over to her. She met his gaze, face lighting up when she saw him. As they embraced, Rex pulled her close to him, his face nestled into her neck. She was real. She was safe.
"I am so glad to see you," Joseta whispered in his ear. Her voice sent his stomach into flips. She was really here. Talking to him.
"I am glad you are here," he said, pulling her aside to a dark corner behind the booths. He leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you, too," she said, wrapping her arms around his neck as she pecked his lips. "I've also missed that."
He chuckled, brushing his nose against hers. "Me, too." He met Joseta's eyes, her gaze serious. "What?"
She clenched her jaw. "I just wanna say I—I don't know." She looked down. "I just don't want to lose you is all."
He bit his lips, stepping back. He knew what she wanted to say. In fact, he knew what he wanted to say. He had held back so much out of fear. He wanted to say how much he loved her. Instead, he was coming up short.
"Would you like to dance?" he blurted out, stepping forward to take her hand.
Joseta's brows raised. "Wait, the ever stoic Captain Rexus is asking me to dance?"
Rex grumbled. "Shut up and let's get this over with." He really didn't like to dance but knew she loved it.
As he led her to the floor, she froze, halting before reaching it. "But no one else is dancing," she said, noting everyone sitting for this song.
"That's never stopped you before," Rex said as they swayed back and forth to the music. "But you are not the only one," he said, clasping his hands behind her back, pulling her closer. "I am dancing with you. I always will if you want me to. I'll do it for you, dear."
