Hunter's comm buzzed, snapping him from his dozing off. Rubbing his eyes, Hunter groaned. If Tech was going to say that he got the wrong type of screws again, Hunter was going to strangle him. No, it was from Nora. They're back. What was that supposed to mean? As he wracked his brain, he recalled the Death Watchers that had come a few days prior.
He jumped from his chair, fully alert now. He couldn't let anything bad happen to Nora. Or this village. He ran out to the garage of Morut Base, slowing to a stop in front of the shuttle where Tech was working. His brother was under the hood, muttering to himself.
"Tech, they're back," he said, taking a breath to calm his racing heart. "The Death Watch folk we saw in Nora's shop."
Tech's head appeared as he slammed the hood down. "That is bad news. I will message Rylann."
"This ready to go?" Hunter asked, opening the door of the shuttle-car.
Tech nodded, wiping his hands on a towel. "Now it should be." He grabbed Hunter and his own gear belt from the small armory set up by the garage door. "Might need this."
Hunter hoped not, but knowing Death Watch, there would be carnage.
Driving as fast as he could down the country roads, Hunter tried to quell the fears in his mind. What if he was too late? What if Nora was attacked? He silenced the thought. Nora was strong. She could take care of herself. And it didn't make sense why the Death Watch would attack her when they were no doubt after him and his brothers.
The sky glowed red. The smell of smoke saturated the air as they neared the town. Buildings were on fire as a large ship hovered a few miles outside of town. How did they miss this? Their radars didn't pick it up at all.
"Kriff," Tech muttered, typing away on his datapad. "Seems that Rylann can't make it. She is sending a small squadron to help us."
Hunter shook his head. This was not going as planned at all—not that they really had a plan. Once they reached the village, screams filled the air. Blaster shots echoed through the town, sending chills down Hunter's spine. Hopping out of the shuttle-car, he rushed towards Nora's shop, but paused when the hairs on his neck rose.
That was a familiar presence. Turning to look towards the fire on a building across the town, a figure emerged from the flames, smoke tendrils wrapping around him like a cape. It was Maul. Maul was in Lo'Retta and they had no back-up.
