Secrets

   My mom has been getting up early in the mornings. Earlier than I do for school. J and I are taking summer classes to get more credit so we can maybe graduate early. She has been working really hard on songs and I don't think she ever really stops writing and recording songs. My mom gets home before I get home from school, but I still feel like she isn't there. She's always on the phone or in her room, writing. I don't dare tell her that I feel almost as if she isn't there anymore because I know she would just drop everything and spend time with me. I'd rather her let one person down, that person being me, then let down millions of fans. When I walk downstairs to eat breakfast, she is on the phone. She automatically says 'bye' and hangs up when she sees me walk to the kitchen

"Who was that?"

"Oh, no one, really. Just someone at the recording studio," she says nervously

"Okay..." I get a box of Lucky Charms from the cabinet and pour some into a bowl. I pour some milk in it. "we need more milk."

"Okay, I'll stop and get some on my way home from work."

"Thanks and I'm going to leave a little early."

"Why's that?"

"J's car broke down and is in the shop. I was going to go pick her up and take her to school. Is that okay?"

"Of course."

"Okay, just making sure."

"Samie, can I ask you a question?"

"Yeah, sure."

"How would you feel about me looking for a boyfriend?"

"Umm.. I don't really care. I mean, if that's what is going to make you happy, then go for it."

"Okay."

"Well, I'm going to leave. See you after school." I lean towards her and give her a kiss on the lips. "eww, mom, you've been drinking your protein shake, haven't you?"

"Maybe." She says as a light smile appears on her face. I love her smile. It is so filled with happiness and joy. Her littlest smile can light up the whole world. I walk out the garage door and close it behind me. The butterfly door opens up and I get in the car. I push the button on my keys to shut the door. I open the garage door and pull out of the driveway. I drive to J's house. After pulling into her driveway, I get out my phone and text her that I am waiting outside. A couple minutes later, she walks out of the front door. I open the passenger side door and she gets in. 

"Guess what my mom asked me this morning?" 

"What?" she asks as she takes selfies because she likes bragging about my car because it's a new, 2015, model and crazy expensive.

"She asked me if she could get a boyfriend."

"Why'd she ask you for permission?"

"I have no idea. I was so confused."

"Maybe she already has a new boyfriend and just wanted to make sure you were fine with it without actually telling you about him."

"Maybe, I don't know." A lot of kids are surrounding my parking lot as I parked my car. All you can hear is a bunch of gasps as the butterfly doors raise up. We get out and everyone surrounds me. I lock my car and start walking to the school. I walk in through the office entrance.

"Good morning, Tony."

 "Morning, Samie and J."

     We walk out of the office and to our lockers. The people are still following me. I open my locker and shove all my stuff in my locker. I keep my keys with me. J walks back up to me after putting her stuff in her locker with her book. I kiss her on the lips as I put my keys in my leather jacket pocket, with the lanyard sticking out.
