Just Because

I have been staying with Samie for about a week now because I don't want to be home when my grandparents fly in and they will be really soon. It is early in the morning and I can't sleep. I haven't slept all night for some reason, but Samie has slept perfectly fine.. I don't want to try to get up and go downstairs or anything because I would risk waking Samie up. I hear the door oh so slowly open and Katy's head pops through the crack

"Oh, you're awake."

"I haven't been able to sleep for some reason."

"Do you want to go out shopping with me?"

"If it wouldn't bother you."

"No, I was actually going to ask you two if you were awake."

"I just don't want to wake her up."

"She'll be fine. She's a heavy sleeper." I slowly slide out from under her, making sure to not wake her up. I start to get dressed and do my hair and make up

"Why are you going shopping so early? It's like 5 in the morning."

"Bored."

"You and me, Katy, you and me."

"I like you more and more each time we talk." The room falls silent, but, to break the silence, I ask

"When do you think is the right time to have kids?"

"Chrissy, there is no right time... Look at me, I've been waiting for the right time and now I'm almost 32 with no children."

"I just.. I don't know.. I've always dreamed of popping out children as soon as I got out of high school, but I don't want to push Samie... Because of Emelie."

"Look, I like to think I know Samie exceptionally well and I know she's not a person who bends. Yet, she's bending for you because she loves you. She knows you want children, you weren't shy about it, so when she's over Emelie, she'll tell you. Trust me, you two will have all kinds of babies."

"Thanks, Katy. You know, back when Samie and I first started dating, I would watch interviews of her and she would talk about how she goes to you for help or advice, but I never understood.. I kinda just always thought that you were too busy or caught up in your work to give sane advice, but now I understand." She puts her arm around my shoulder as we walk out the door

"Giving insane people sane advice is easy because what they think is sane, I might think is insane, but they wouldn't know because they're insane." I smack her before getting in the passenger side of her Audi A5.

"How do you know that you're not the insane one?"

"I just know."

"Mmhmm." She drives and stops in front of a shop. It looks really nice. I can't quite read what the sign on the building says because Katy is pulling me into the shop. I glance around and it's a jewelry shop. "Katy, what are we doing here?"

"Samie's engagement ring."

"I.. I don't have the money, Katy."

"That's why I'm here."

"I can't let you do that."

"Too bad. Look around. Don't worry about prices." I look at the cheapest rings and I can feel Katy staring at me over my shoulder.

"What?" I ask, looking at her. She doesn't reply, but instead, she turns my body and walks me down to a glass case of really, really pretty rings. "Katy, these are so pretty and... Oh, my God. So expensive."

"Don't worry about prices."

"Why are you doing this?"

"Just because."
