The days after the incident were strangely calm, but, at the same time, hard for everyone: Rory had come back home, but she still refused to talk openly with her father, especially after yet another demonstration with Lydia that she didn't have control of her powers at all. Ophelia and Scott were extremely worried about their mother trying in every way to ignore them, even at home; when the woman came home from work she ran into the room and locked herself inside, and, despite the siblings having tried countless times to talk to her, she didn't answer. Finally, Stiles, upset about everything that was happening to him, his friends and what could have happened to his father at the police station, ended up talking to the school psychologist, to whom, however, he could not tell the real reasons for his problems

The four friends, even when they saw each other at school, spoke little, they did not seem as close as before, too wrapped up in their own struggles; especially when Matt was found dead, drowned

That evening Ophelia had returned home early because a boy she was supposed to tutor had not been found after school, so the girl had gone home. Scott had recently returned home too, because he had been at school longer as he had his last training session before the championship game

The boy came out of the bathroom, after taking a shower, and found himself in front of a scene that paralyzed him immeditaly: the Kanima, on the ceiling of the room, held his tail twisted around his mother's neck, while Gerard was sitting on one of the armchairs he had in his room. At that moment Ophelia, who was already in the house, heard strange noises, but before opening the door of her brother's room she tried to hear what was happening inside

"I think the time has come to speak," decreed Gerard, remaining seated without a care in the world, Ophelia could hear him perfectly, she could also sense the accelerated heartbeat of her mother

"Let her go and we could talk about what you want" Scott tried to be decisive in what he said, but she could feel his agitation, in fact the man got up from the chair slowly approaching the Kanima and the woman

"I want what I've always wanted: Derek and his pack. I think with the right motivation you might be able to flush them out. Do you know why I can control him?" Gerard completely changed by saying those words, he was blinded by a blind rage, wanted revenge and looked for Derek; for a moment the girl feared that Scott would talk. In all that time he had not asked him anything about what linked him to Gerard, he had not asked him anything about the deal she had heard the two talking about

"Kate, does she have something to do with this?" the boy guessed and the man in front of him  answered bitterly, without even give him the time to add anything else, revealing his true intentions "I came here, not only to bury my daughter, but to avenge her"

The girl, outside the door, was frustrated, she could not intervene and much less try to talk to Scott, she did not want to raise a fuss about this infamous deal that there was between the boy and Gerard. Ophelia sighed and the moment she heard footsteps approaching her she ran, hiding in her room and trying to calm down so as to attenuate her heartbeat and breath until she heard Gerard and the beast walking out of there

"What happened?" Ophelia asked once arrived in his brother's room, finding her mother on the ground scared, she went next to her to check that she was okay
"Scott, I don't know what that beast is, or what you are, but give him what he wants," almost begged the woman at the point of a nervous breakdown, catching her breath; the girl felt the rage mounting inside her, she didn't understand what kind of pact there was between her brother and Gerard, so much so that the man had come to touch their mother

"It's not that simple," the boy tried to justify himself, Ophelia tried to restrain herself with the little calm she had left, while the mother kept telling her son to give Gerard everything he wanted
