Me: Welcome back, Victoria. (I smiled while shaking hands with her)
Victoria: Thank you. (She grins) And all the best to you. (She said moving her eyes to the school gate)
Jules: Jeez….this feels like a festival. (She said awestruck)
The courtyard teemed with students, anticipation thick in the air, centered around a table prepared for an arm-wrestling showdown. A colossal banner adorned the school building, signaling the significance of the event, drawing attention even from the teachers. Among the eager crowd, Christina stood patiently, supported by Karl’s reassuring pat on her shoulder.
Karl: Don’t you dare ruin my image by losing this competition. (He said warningly)
Christina: Don’t worry. (She smiled)
Julie: (she stood in front of me, her eyes sparkled with excitement) All the best Anne! (She grins) I know you can do this! Fighting! (She hypes me up)
Me: Thanks…..(I blinked) Why do you trust me even after….. never mind.
Choon Hee: (she slaps my back) All the best dude!
Bella: Best of luck Anne. I know you will win this, because you have plot armor. (She smiled)
Me: What the fuck is that? (I raised my brow)
Bella: It’s something every main character has, you won’t understand because you don’t read novels. (She replied)
Me: Like something Batman has? (I tilt my head while Bella nods)
Christina: What are you waiting for? Don’t tell me that you are scared of me already. (She smirks while advancing towards us) Hope you remember our bet. You still have time to run away.
Me: (I turned to look at her as I took out two packets of hair colour, one was green and another one was pink) Choose.
Christina: (her face turned red with anger) You!!!
Before she could complete her sentence, Mr. Gunther called both of us for the competition.
Victoria: Don’t worry Anne, even if you lose, no one will blame you. (She smiled)
Me: Anne Elizabeth won’t lose against a pathetic person. (I said confidently)
The crowd roared with excitement as Christina confidently took her place at the arm-wrestling table. The atmosphere was electric, cheers echoing throughout the courtyard. I was, determined and focused, squared up across from Christina. The initial moments of the match seemed to go in Christina’s favor, her strength apparent as she pushed my arm closer to the table.
Cheers erupted from the spectators, Christina’s supporters celebrating what seemed like an inevitable victory. Karl watched with a smirk of satisfaction, already savoring the triumph. On the other hand, Victoria and Jules remained steadfast, exchanging knowing glances. Bella’s face turned gloom due to stress, Choon Hee shouted my name loudly to motivate me, whereas Julie’s face remained filled with hope, as if she knew that I would win, even though the current situation said otherwise.
As the struggle continued, Christina’s expression shifted from confidence to surprise. The cheers for her started to mix with gasps of disbelief. Despite her initial dominance, I held my ground. A subtle smirk played on my lips, catching the attention of those who doubted me. Christina, struggled to comprehend the sudden turn of events, gritted her teeth and strained to overpower me, but this shit was easy for me, I was letting Christina gain confidence in first place by letting her believe that she can win against me, only to crush her hopes under my feet. It was fun watching her expressions change from pride to desperation, she never had a chance to win against me, after all even her grip is weak. “There was no point of accepting this silly challenge but I wanted to watch her suffer.” I kept my grudge against her since the day she tried to slap Julie, I didn’t mind that I got slapped in Julie’s place but she have made that poor child go through a hell, so it was time that she got something in return.
The crowd’s cheers Intensified, creating a frenzied atmosphere. People started, to chant my name making me feel embarrassed, “Like jeez, stop it already”. With a determined gleam in my eyes, I pushed back against Christina’s efforts. The tables were turning, literally and figuratively. The once-confident Christina found herself unable to budge my arm any closer to defeat.
My smirk widened into a triumphant smile. The realization hit Christina that victory was slipping away. Desperation flickered in her eyes as I, against all expectations, started gaining ground. The courtyard, once echoing Christina’s name, now fell silent because of the unexpected turn of events. In a surprising twist, I seized control, swiftly overpowering Christina’s resistance. Disbelief sweeping through the courtyard, then, the ground was filled with an explosive eruption of cheers.
Christina, caught off guard by the unexpected defeat, stared at me in disbelief. I continued smirking while withdraw my hand, with a mixture of satisfaction and relief in my eyes.
Christina: H-How? (Her hand trembled with immense pain and was slightly swollen because of Anne using huge amount of physical strength on purpose. Her eyes were filled with disbelief)
Me: Because you are pathetic. (I said while whispering to her)
Christina: You! (She was angry but couldn’t deny as well. I looked among the crowds and noticed Ratree holding her camera, as I waved at her with a smile. She raised her camera and clicks my picture.)
Gunther: (he finally announces) The first round goes to Miss Elizabeth, she showcased a marvelous strength and defeated Miss Christina. We will soon start with second round.
Before second round could start, Karl glared at Christina and took his leave as if he knew the result well and choose to ruin away from reality. Christina’s body started shivering with fear, her eyes moved nervously and she seemed distracted. Her mind wandered around worried regarding the aftermath of this match.
Christina: (she murmured to herself) Mom will kill me……(she bites the nail of her finger, and her eyes gets moist)
I sighed, I don’t know if anyone noticed the change in her behavior or they felt that she was just stressed regarding competition, but I knew that it was much more than that. This was the first time Christina was acting so vulnerably as if there was an invisible force, like a ghost over her shoulder. She was scared to face her mother and brother after this match and I pitied her. I already knew that Christina isn’t a bad person, she is just being forced to act like an asshole by her own family.
The second round commenced with Christina visibly shaken, her pale face betraying the fear that gnawed at her. The once-confident competitor now seemed haunted by the consequences of her impending defeat. As we locked hands for the second round, Christina’s focus wavered, and her movements lacked the earlier conviction. The crowd hushed, sensing the palpable shift in dynamics. Everyone roared in cheers as if the winner was already decided. Many wanted Christina to taste the despair for bullying people and I can understand their hatred. My friends’ eyes were filled with expectations as they silently encouraged me, so there was no point of dragging this worthless bet anymore. With the first move, I seized the opportunity, capitalizing on Christina’s distracted state. The element of surprise worked to my advantage, as I swiftly maneuvered my arm, overpowering her weakened resistance. The courtyard, once again filled with anticipation, erupted into cheers as Christina’s arm approached defeat.
Christina’s face contorted in a mix of disbelief and despair. Her distracted state had cost her dearly. The realization of her impending loss dawned on her, and her eyes darted around, seeking an escape from the inevitable. The second round concluded with my triumph, a mirror image of the first, and the crowd’s roar reached a crescendo. Gunther, with a tone of finality, declared my victory in the second round. Christina’s shoulders slumped, defeated not just physically but emotionally. The weight of her family’s expectations, her fear of repercussions, and the realization of her vulnerability were palpable.
While the teachers left, there were many spectators who stood there to watch the real fun. Christina’s face was gloom as I kept the hair colors in front of her face.
Me: (with an evil smirk) Hope you didn’t forget the best? (I tilt my head slightly)
