We sat inside the café waiting for King, Leo and Adelina sat beside each other while I took a seat in front of them. Adelina kept glancing at me, she bites her lower lip then stared at her fingers while hesitating. King was late as usual, Leo kept on cursing under his breath, but made sure that Adelina can’t hear him.
Adelina: Uhm Anne, I have heard a lot about you from Leo. (She felt shy) I really admire you.
I blinked in disbelief, there is someone who actually admires me? I stared at my brother wondering if he choose some delusional woman or did he make her delusional? Or is there something wrong with me? Am I dreaming? Is this some type of illusion? I pinched my arm hard only to realize it was reality.
Me : (I cleared my throat) I think I heard you wrong, you admire me? (I raised my brow) I didn’t do anything to receive someone’s admiration, it would be better if you admire someone who deserves it. (I smiled at her)
Adelina: (she looks at Leo for a moment then sighs while holding my hand) Anne…someday, you will realize your value, you deserve all the admiration and love, you know I am a single child and always wanted a younger sibling like you…so…uhm….can we meet again, like girls time? (She smiles)
Me: I mean if you want?...I don’t know what people do in girls time, never had one before. (I said sighing)
Adelina: I don’t know, maybe study together?... actually I also never had something like this before. (She said feeling embarrassed)
Me: Ah…ya…we can do that, maybe we can go out sometime for movies? (I said while going through the menu)
Adelina: Sure! (She grins happily)
One thing I have realized that, most people are lonely in this world, and people use different coping mechanisms to overcome their loneliness, they either try to get over or get used to it, first category are people like Jules; who socialize a lot, only to find that at the end of the day there are no one beside them. Second category are those, who aren’t alone by choice; they feel lonely because of being isolated by others, this happens because we, as humans, are too quick to judge people and don’t want to mix with those who don’t fit in our ideals. Third category are those, who love staying alone and enjoy their quality time, these type of people choose to alienate themselves for their own mental peace. But I fall under the fourth category, “I don’t give a fuck” type.
Various thoughts crossed my mind while I stared out of the window, admiring the view, it was almost 30 minutes later, King arrived at the café, he was covered in sweat, he was panting as if he has run at top speed, there were bruises on his neck, and his clothes were disorganized. His blond hair fell over his face, there was piercings on his ears, he wanted to hug me but because of his sweaty clothes he choose not to, and proceeds to sit beside me.
Me: King…how did you get bruises on your neck? Don’t tell me it’s some kind of allergic reaction? Did you go to hospital for checkup? (I asked him while getting worried)
King: (he laughs while kissing my forehead) I am alright, don’t worry. (For some reason, Brother Leo kept on glaring at him with anger and frustration) Now you tell me, whom did you fucked up this time? (He says smirking while tapping on my bandaged nose)
Me: (I pout removing his hand) Stop teasing me, it was just a bully from our school, his name is Karl. He was harassing my friend, but now I got kicked out of school because of putting him to his place. (I rolled my eyes annoyed)
Leo: (he almost stands up out of concern) Why didn’t you tell me? How could they kick you out?
Me: So that you go there and cause a scene and then get arrested? No thanks. (I showed him middle finger)
King: So…who kicked you out? Was it the director? (He asked while sipping water)
Me: No, it was female football team’s coach, I think her name is Emilia. (I sighed) Anyways, tomorrow I will be going to meet the Director, so don’t worry. (I smiled before calling for the waiter)
King: Emilia…football coach….(he murmured under his breathe)
The whole time Leo was staring at King, his expressions were filled with jealousy and disgust, King checked his phone with a frown over his face trying to ignore Leo’s presence. There was an unknown stress going on between them, and their relationship seemed to have gotten worse over the years.
It was at late afternoon, when we finally parted ways, I was feeling tired and sleepy after a good meal, I walked up to the football ground where I met Thomas for the first time, laying on the soft green grass, I closed my eyes, soft winds hit against my face, before I could realize, I was already in a deep sleep. I don’t know how much time had past, I could feel few hands shaking my body trying to wake me up, there was a cry of agony, my eyelids felt heavy, I tried opening my eyes getting annoyed, the vision was still blurry, I could make out small figures surrounding me. “Children?” I thought to myself.
All of a sudden I snapped back to reality, I sat down wiping my eyes, slowly my vision became clearer. I groaned while rubbing my forehead, my head started aching, raising my brow, I looked at the children in a questioning manner.
Child 1 : (she starts sobbing loudly while holding my hand) Big sis, please help sister Julie, she is in danger! (She points at the other end of the playground)
I blinked hearing her words then turned my head to notice that Julie was being threatened by a drunk man, the guy was 6 ft. tall and was using pocket-knife as weapon. He grabbed Julie by her collar lifting her up and had the knife near her face, Julie looked frightened as she struggled to free herself.
