Rohaan

Yamna stared down at me from the landing, her eyes wide and a dupatta draped over her head. "Rohaan! What are you doing here?"

"Your parents are staying the night, so I was asked to come and get you. And perhaps, you and I can also talk about why you have been avoiding me." I replied.

She came downstairs, shaking her head. "I can't. I have too much work to do."

"Pick the work up and bring it along." I crossed my arms over my chest. "These are direct orders from your Tayan. You can call him and tell him that you're not coming."

She looked hesitant even now.

"Okay, I won't tease your mercilessly on the way over. Happy? Now get your things."

"Only for Tayan and Anabia Tayi. And Mama and Papa." She turned and rushed up the stairs.

I laughed. "What did Arsal do to you? I know I'm the natural enemy, but what did he do?"

I was scrolling through my phone when she came back with he (unsurprisingly pink) overnight bag. "Yaar, you make Barbie look like a goth."

"I love pink!" She shrugged almost defensively.

"No! I would never have guest!" I dramatically put my hand over my chest, before holding my other hand out towards her.

Her gaze widened as she stared at my hand and then up at me again. "What are you doing?"

"I'm trying to act like the gentleman that my parents tried to raise me to be." I said. "Give me the bag." At the deep blush on her cheeks, I laughed again. "Ghabrao nahin, haath nahin maang raha."

*"Don't worry, I'm not asking you for your hand."

"It's fine. It's a light bag. Thank you."

"As you wish."

She locked the front door and to my surprise, headed to the back seat of my car, getting inside along with her overnight bag.

I got into the driving seat. "Yaar, I feel like an Uber driver. Come up front."

"It's okay. It's more spacious back here."

"Spacious? We are not flying to Singapore that you need the space." I was a little bewildered about her behaviour. "Aajao agaye. Kat ta nain hoon main." I think I realised too late how my words must have sounded, but I brushed it off.
