Rohaan

The blood-splattered round glasses.

The screams of my Chachu and Chachi.

The absolutely unbearable pain.

Her hair over her face, her eyes closed.

I stared at myself in the bathroom mirror, breathing hard. I didn't get nightmares. I hadn't had nightmares since I was a child, but this one was so vivid that if I believed in premonitions, I'd think it was one.

It was Yamna's first official morning here, and she had already gone downstairs.

The sound of the gunshot still reverberated in my head, as if I had actually been there. As if it had all been real.

It wasn't real. It was a nightmare.

I won't let anything happen to Yamna.

My phone was ringing, and I headed back into my room to answer it.

Ahmed.

"Hey, Ahmed." I answered.

"Parricide." He said simply. "Both elderly parents were brutally murdered. They lived with the son, and the son is nowhere to be found."

*This is based on a true story.  Once, we were about to move into a temporary home until our home was renovated, and we had even started moving our things in. But soon the neighbours told us that elderly parents had been murdered by their son in their bedroom. We had found stains on the white curtains, which we later realised were bloodstains, as well as on a discarded mattress at the side of the house. It had been a police case, all over the news. Fortunately, we ended up not moving in that house.

"Whoa."

"It's just a few streets down from you. Bosses are looking for all hands on deck."

"I'll be there." I said, immediately. This was an investigation that I needed to be a part of.
