I didn't want to ponder on it too much, but I'd felt a little aloofness from Arsal when Yamna and I had returned home. He had hugged me, but his smile had almost felt forced. Tahira, on the other hand, had greeted us warmly.

I'm overthinking. It's Grasshopper, for f**k's sake.

But my instincts thought otherwise.

"Don't you have an early start? Why are you still up?" Yamna asked me as she entered our bedroom, closing the door behind her.

"I can't sleep." I muttered as I lay on my back, staring up at the ceiling.

She grinned, sitting down on the bed beside me. "You can cuddle with my soft toys."

"I prefer the owner of those soft toys." I sat up, leaning against the headboard, reaching out towards her and grabbing her wrist.

She smiled, dropping her gaze.

My phone rang and I swore under my breath, until I saw that it was a video call from Behaya. "Behaya, at this time?" I answered immediately.

Haya looked stressed out, and Maham was crying endlessly in her arms.

"Hey, Mamu's jaan, what's going on?" I asked, softly.

"She had a bad dream about being robbed, and she wanted to report the crime to you." Behaya smiled weakly.

"Is that right, Maham?" I focused on my niece. "Tell me, who dared rob Detective Maham? Give me the details. What did he look like? I'll catch him... or her."

Maham looked at the camera, rubbing her sleeve over her nose. "Mamu, he had lots of hair on his face and his hair was red...like the colour of ketchup."

"I'm making notes as we speak." I told her. "I'll find him, Maham. I'll arrest him, okay? Trust your Mamu to keep you safe from crime."

"I do." Maham pouted. "I want to come to you now."

"Sweetheart, it's very late. Come to me during the day, okay? Or I'll visit you after work tomorrow. How about that?" I smiled at her.

"Pinkie swear?" My niece fluttered her eyelashes, her pout getting bigger.

I laughed. "I'll try my very best, Maham. I don't want to pinkie swear in case I get stuck at work, since I don't want to break a pinkie promise."

"Okay, but try." Maham actually wagged a finger at me in warning.

"Yes, Boss." I nodded.

"Okay now, Maham?" Haya asked her daughter. "Shall we let Mamu sleep now?"

Maham put a finger on her chin, thoughtfully for a few seconds. "Ummm.... okay!"

"Good night, sweet princess. I might come around tomorrow, Haya. Prepare a grand feast." I grinned at my sister.

"You eat what you get." Haya said. "And if you can, bring Yum-Yum along. I miss her."

"You are Yamna's Nand now, so she doesn't want to see..."

Yamna snatched my phone from me. "No, Appi! That's not true! Assalam Alaikum!"
