"Good morning Emily! I need to talk to you about something."
"Good morning, Yamna!" She smiled warmly at me. "Of course, have a seat." She pointed to the two chairs opposite her on the other side of her desk.
I sat down, feeling nervous.
"What can I do for you, Yamna?"
"Emily, I'd like to report the unacceptable and harassing behaviour of some of my colleagues." I spoke with full confidence, without stammering or without my voice breaking.
For the next forty minutes, I was in her office, going over everything that had happened with me since I'd start working here. I told her that I had tried to ignore it, and it worked briefly, but they were all relentless.
"Ignoring never solves the problem, Yamna." She sat back with a sigh. "I'm glad that you came to me. Naturally, we are going to have to speak to all parties involved, get everyone's statements, and then we'll have to arrange something involving HR."
I nodded. I knew that it wasn't as simple as me going to speak to my boss, and then everyone getting in trouble. There were procedures that had to be followed. It was necessary for the management to have everyone's side of things, I understood that. But I was worried that they would take their side as they were senior employees, and I was just a new girl still in her probation period.
