As the moon disappeared from our view, Heeseung and I played on the lake and soon returned to the mansion. After getting wet, the chill wind wasn't the best companion for this night. When we entered, we tried lowering our chuckles; we didn't want to wake up our friends.
Immediately, I took Heeseung to my room and let him shower first. I hopped on after him and quickly lay on my bed next to him. We continued doing what new couples do: hold hands, chuckle about anything, and smile at each other while looking into our eyes. Finally, I thought life was compensating me for all I'd lost.
"What's on your mind?" Heeseung asked as he played with my hair while I rested my head on his chest.
"Are you reading my thoughts?" I imitated his usual question, causing him to chuckle.
"No. I can sense your aura," Heeseung stated before I looked back at him—. "Are you thinking about tomorrow's departure?"
"Just enough," I sighed.
"It'll be alright," Heeseung softly said before resting his chin on my head—. "But remember. No one can know about our bond."
"Oh, okay," I was stunned by Heeseung's request but didn't object to his wishes. He scoffed before pinching my cheeks.
"I'm talking about our connection, not our relationship," Heeseung clarified, making me blush and look away from him, embarrassed—. "Dumb Phoenix."
"Controlling angel," I mocked.
Heeseung laughed before we looked at each other, and our connection instantly activated.
"Much better," Heeseung looked pleased.
"You are growing addicted to this," I stated.
"No. To you," Heeseung proudly said.
"Whatever," I answered, gaining a blissful guffaw from Heeseung. I stared at him more until I reached his hair and played with it. I became thoughtful again—. "Heeseung. Now that we are together, will you prohibit my assistance for the mission?"
Heeseung shook his head—. "I did that once, and we fought over it. I don't want that to repeat, even though I prefer to keep you hidden until everything ends."
"I never wanted to doubt your leadership, though," I assured my lover, gaining a subtle smile and a soft touch on my cheek in response.
"Jake, it was necessary despite my previous statement. Besides, the Angelic Realm needs you. Only a Phoenix Angel can end with the demons once and for all," Heeseung pointed out before picking my nose—. "But don't worry, I'll be there with you."
