JAKE

Heeseung went to the headmistress' office, and no one knew when he would return. Sunghoon told me to be patient since those meetings last long; he suggested going somewhere instead of waiting. I didn't oppose it, and Sunoo was getting bored; thus, he followed Sunghoon's lead. It didn't surprise me when he took us to the yard and asked us to equip our weapons. He wanted a battle of three.

We trained for a while and practiced various strategies while having fun. It almost made me forget that Heeseung was in the headmistress' office, probably getting questioned about everything that occurred at Evermore Forest. I couldn't get distracted, though. Sunghoon has his eyes on me, ready to attack at any moment. Sunoo created an imaginary maze around us with his powers; hence, I couldn't see where my mate would appear.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and activated the Sensory Rune. Sunghoon is an Iceberg Angel; thus, he might be using an ability to lower the sound of his footsteps. It was evident in my head what he wanted to do: a sneak attack. Yet, a simple jump caused me to grasp his position. Immediately, I unsheathed the rapier to block Sunghoon's attack. And when he was before me, preparing to strike again, I drew the Ember Rune. He dashed forward, not hesitating his motions; however, I transferred my power to my weapon and vanished his ice attack with a fire shield created after swinging the blade.

"Shit! That scared me!" Sunghoon managed to stop his step by letting himself fall before clashing against the shield. Soon, the maze disappeared, and Sunoo's laughter became louder—. "Hey! Are you laughing at me?!"

"Sorry! You almost melted there, hyung," Sunoo laughed hysterically.

I chuckled before helping Sunghoon stand up—. "You almost got me."

"I got you without our powers, but when you use your fire against my ice, it's game over," Sunghoon stated before cluttering my hair—. "But well done! That move was clever."

"I thought about it at the last minute," I lied.

"Aha! Sure," Sunghoon rolled his eyes while we walked toward Sunoo.

"Good practice! I'm glad I didn't challenge you, hyung," Sunoo said while standing up from the bench, approaching us while chuckling a bit. Perhaps he was still making fun of Sunghoon.

"Why do you say that? Because you know you'd lose to Jake?" Someone said, causing us to look behind. Adriel and his team entered the training area.

"This space is occupied. Why don't you go somewhere else?" Sunghoon questioned, annoyed.
