Somehow, we separated awfully; it wasn't a plan—we acted quickly to survive. Jake and I were alone, chased by demons and Daehyun's followers, while K and the others ran through the woods. We couldn't follow them closely; thus, we took a different route and hoped for the best. – I assured Jake's safety by occasionally defending ourselves, attacking them without stopping once. Unfortunately, our enemies weren't slowing down; on the contrary, it appeared like more demons were spawning closer and closer.

The path we followed showed light ahead, the escape we needed desperately. However, after getting out of the woods, we realized it was a waterfall with a high cliff, and we were on the edge. Automatically, I looked at Jake; he appeared exalted and concerned. I held his hand, causing him to glance back and eventually read my thoughts. Without saying a word, he assented and tightened his grasp; we took a deep breath and jumped from the cliff, landing on a cold and profound stream.

I spun underwater upon reaching the end, falling via the waterfall and into a lake. At last—I swam to the surface and stood afloat, quickly reaching the shore and recovering my breath. However, when I looked around, I didn't see Jake anywhere. I panicked.

"Jake!" I desperately shouted while walking around, my eyes glued to the water. Suddenly, I noticed a body carried by the water; I ran to it and realized it was Jake—. "Love!"

I placed Jake on the ground and pressed his chest rhythmically and repeatedly until he coughed water and returned to his senses. I sighed in relief before he sat and looked at me. Immediately, his eyes flooded with tears; he faced down, not daring to look at me. My heart broke—I couldn't imagine what happened with Governor Daehyun before my arrival. I didn't hesitate to scooch over and hug him tightly, making his sobs louder than before.

"I want to go home," Jake stuttered, hiding his face against my shoulder.

"We'll get there. I promise," I softly murmured before kissing Jake's head.

After resting and easing our emotions, Jake and I adventured into the forest behind us; he immediately recognized the place. Somehow, the waterfall led us to the Entangled Woods. Hence, he guided me to the mansion—finally, a safe place to heal and compose ourselves. Unfortunately, Jake didn't speak throughout the way; he appeared traumatized and troubled by something, and I couldn't tell what it was. He blocked me from his thoughts; thus, I couldn't read them. I was worried; I never saw Jake in this state before.

We found the mansion and entered it immediately. Jake gathered all the healing supplies in the living area, and I brought towels to prevent a cold. I treated Jake's wounds while he zoned out, allowing him to take his time to speak to me. I couldn't force him; it wouldn't be fair for him.
