LEE HEESEUNG

I turned around and looked at Jake. Eye to eye, not blinking once, only to admire his gaze. It was so familiar but new simultaneously. "Jake," I murmured, not knowing how to answer his statement. I didn't know my team returned already.

"How can you carelessly talk about someone you barely met? Have I told you anything about my beliefs? Tell me!" Jake angrily questioned.

"I only worry about you, Jake. You don't have to take it to heart," I assured Jake, but he stepped back and shook his head.

"How can you worry about me? You barely know anything about my life," Jake stated.

"You are part of the team—my unit. I already told you," I reminded Jake, but he scoffed at my words, upset.

"A team ruled by The Council? Don't you see? I can't work for those who ruined my life!" Jake furiously spoke before leaving the library.

"Jake!" I called his name and followed him outside. But before I could chase him, the headmistress called me.

"Heeseung. You threw your hands into the flames for someone you don't know. I hope you acknowledge this already, but the task the Supreme Leader gave you is impossible," Yiyun pointed out, concerned.

"I know Jake represents a great challenge, but I don't believe it is impossible to make him support us. I'll do what it takes to gain his trust," I assured the headmistress before following Jake's trace. I wandered around the hallways, guessing the direction he went. But while doing so, I encountered Sunoo, causing me to approach him quickly.

"Hey! Have you seen Jake?" I asked.

"Yes, I left him inside his room. But he appeared upset; did something happen?" Sunoo asked, concerned.

"No, nothing important," I lied, not wanting to admit I did Jake wrong.

"Alright, then. But let me tell you something, leader. Jake isn't a wicked angel; he doesn't have anything to do with the demons. However, his experiences validate his grudge against the angelic world," Sunoo pointed out, sounding concerned.

"Why do you say that? Did Jake open up to you?" I asked, stunned.

"Briefly. Jake talked about his past with Sunghoon and me; it happened at the Blackburry Forest," Sunoo explained.

"Alright. Thank you for telling me."

"Oh, and I invited Jake to join our training session later. What do you think?" Sunoo revealed, looking excited—pleased to have someone new around him.
