Angelic Realm: Boen City.

HEESEUNG

The nightfall arose, covering the land with darkness and cold winds. My spine shivered as I watched the moonlight, and my prayers replayed inside my head, attempting to manifest themselves before our gods to make them come true. After discussing the final plan to reclaim Auris City, my stomach felt empty, and my reality shifted. I wasn't a soldier, let alone a commander fighting for his troops; I was a weak link, mourning internally for his lover's safety. – I couldn't approve of Jake's suggestion; what he asked was hazardous and outrageous. For one, I had to avert my glance and allow others to vote in my name.

Later, everyone returned to Boen City while The Council members discussed the future of Auris City. Via Governor Aera's orders, we prepared for the mission; we would depart to the Blackburry Forest. One last time, The Vision and New Order team explicitly went through the entire scheme and hoped for the best outcome. However, I had to speak with Jake; thus, I grabbed his arm and dragged him away.

Cautiously, I guided Jake outside the palace and confirmed we had privacy. My lover frowned, confused by the sudden shift in my attitude. I eased his worries with soft strokes over his cheek but prevented our connection from activating.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" I questioned, concerned.

"Heeseung, it's the only way to reclaim the city," Jake insisted; he seemed determined.

"But why you? Why can't I be the bait?"

"Daehyun wants me—I'm his son. Why would he wish to see you instead?"

"If I get hurt, Daehyun knows you'll appear." I thought of anything to pull Jake out of his role in the mission, but he didn't budge; he shook his head in disapproval.

"You've done enough."

"You too, and I—"

"—No. You won't risk yourself, and that's final." Jake earnestly said before someone opened the door. Junghwa peeked through it, causing Jake and I to take our distance.

"Everything is set up. We can leave whenever you order, Commander," Junghwa informed.

My heart skipped a beat after hearing Junghwa, and immediately, my gaze returned to Jake. His eyes spoke to me; he was eager and fired up to leave and begin this massacre. That was when I realized I had to toughen my emotions and remember why I was fighting.

"Bianca. She's my reason—I must end this war for her."

I held my pendant before looking back at Junghwa—. "We can depart." He looked at me with sympathy and subtly smiled; he attempted to comfort me, and for one, I returned the gesture. Beyond all, he also lost his lover and grasped the excruciating feeling of grief and emptiness.
