The Angelic Realm: Boen City.

JAKE

An unexpected move from Governor Aera disturbed my team's path and caused Heeseung's mindset to shift entirely: he stopped playing around. My angel transformed into a rock, enduring every emotion within himself and becoming expressionless. It happened in a couple of hours; he was quick to step up to his role in the team and be Sunghoon and Sunoo's support. It was unsettling seeing his prompt attitude change; however, I understood how he felt—we were suffering, and none of our superiors cared. Governor Aera's scheme sounded reckless and desperate, but I couldn't oppose it; I had to abide by the rules, just like Heeseung.

Earlier, The New Order Team talked with The Supreme Leader. It appeared they discussed their upcoming mission at Idea City, but I wouldn't know after Governor Aera told me to wait outside the study. – I bit my nails to the point it hurt. I endlessly walked in circles, counting the minutes in my head, and occasionally played with flames I created with my hands, all to keep myself composed, attempting to ease my nerves.

"May I speak with you after your meeting?"

I activated the Transmission Rune, expecting a response from Heeseung, even though he was busy inside the study. Truthfully, our distance was the only worrying part of this scheme. Sunoo was precise when he exposed our ancestors' wishes and guidance: Heeseung and I need each other to conclude this war. It is the only way. Thus, pulling us apart doesn't make sense—it is like stabbing oneself for the enemy's sake.

"Yes. And stop worrying too much. I can feel your heartbeat, Jake."

Imperceptibly, I smiled after receiving Heeseung's response. Our connection was powerful, and knowing that consoled my soul and gave me hope for the upcoming days.

The grand, white door from the study opened and revealed my team. Aera took her time inside, but I wasn't surprised—both missions were complex and highly dangerous. Hence, planning every step was crucial for our success. – Immediately, I sought Heeseung with my eyes, but before I could speak to him, Governor Aera approached me.

"Wait for me inside," she spoke before I noticed Junghwa, her son, walking to us.

"Now?" I questioned, looking at Heeseung, bewildered.

Aera nodded—. "Jake, let's go," Junghwa said, standing before the study's entrance.

"But—"

"—Jake, go. I'll meet you later," Heeseung intervened, looking at me with a subtle smile.
