We returned to Boen City through the Teleportation Rune. Jake was skeptical and didn't want to return to follow The Supreme Leader's orders again; however, he reluctantly followed me after convincing him to stand by my side. Once we arrived, both realized the change in security; more soldiers were around the palace, and the city appeared deserted. We hurried to meet Sunghoon and Sunoo, and fortunately, they escaped and looked unharmed. The Vision team was complete, too, and finally, I introduced Jake to all their members.
It was reassuring to see everyone safe after splitting in the forest; however, I still thought of the captured angels and those who died in our battle against Governor Daehyun's forces. Unfortunately, my unwellness intensified after hearing the pronounced sound of heels—Aera approached us beside her son, Junghwa. Without hesitation, Jake faced them both, looking disappointed and enraged.
"You always knew I was your brother. Didn't you? Is that why you asked me to see you as one?" Jake questioned, not expecting a response. Then, he glanced at Aera and shook his head—. "And what do you have to say? You abandoned your child and gave him to one of your soldiers. Aren't you ashamed of that?"
"Jake, I had to protect you. My child—"
Jake interrupted Aera—. "Your child? No, I can't accept that. You didn't take care of me—Conah did. He was the only person I had beside me, and neither of you visited me once."
"If you let our mother explain herself, you wouldn't feel so upset," Junghwa pointed out, looking at Jake earnestly.
I stood beside Jake, facing Junghwa with my patience six feet under. He immediately looked at me but didn't appear refueled; instead, he stood straight, chest out, with an unfounded confidence. I snickered at his posture before punching his face; it harshly moved to the side at the impact, and instantly, Aera pulled Junghwa away from me.
"I trusted you to look after Jake, but my judgment was wrong. Did you realize what ensued? Jake could've died!" I angrily shouted at Junghwa while he returned to his previous position with a bloody nose. He clenched his jaw and let go of his mother's grasp.
"I did my best! I tried to keep Jake safe, but Daehyun knew everything we planned, and I trusted the odds were in our favor. I'm sorry," Junghwa justified himself, but he didn't convince me, and after taking a short glimpse at Jake's expression, I knew he felt like me.
"From the beginning, Heeseung knew it was a suicide mission. Why didn't you listen to him? Why?!" Jake earnestly questioned before grunting—. "I burned an entire city! I killed innocent angels; do you realize that?!"
