HEESEUNG

Closer to sunset, I realized substantial discussions remained on pause; I turned my attention somewhere else and let them slide through my fingers without care. I ought to assume responsibility for my actions and finish the conversations I started. With arduous breaths and complex emotions, I walked through the silent, unfamiliar hallway to meet with a door.

My hand is on my chest. My thoughts wander without purpose inside my head, and my heartbeat is fast enough to keep up with a Pegasus flight. After a second deep breath, I knocked on the door before me, already wishing I hadn't come in the first place.

"Heeseung." Jake stood before me after opening the door. His eyes glistened while locking with mine, and somewhere inside me, I wanted to connect with him. Yet, I resisted the temptation and focused on my current task.

"May I have a word with you?" I nervously questioned.

"Sure. Come in," Jake was confused but allowed me to enter his room. Soar greeted me, still with an indifferent gaze but less aggressive than the last time.

Jake and I sat on the cushioned bench before his bed. I tried to prepare to speak about my struggles once and for all; however, when I looked back at Jake, he had a warm smile.

"What?" I asked, confused, still flattening the wrinkles on my clothes.

"You are anxious," Jake realized.

"Jake, please don't read my mind," I sighed, concerned.

Jake chuckled and shook his head—. "You always assume I will; it doesn't surprise me anymore."

"Then, is it obvious? Can you tell I'm anxious?" I questioned.

"Yes. I thought our prayer lifted your spirits," Jake mentioned, causing me to look away, embarrassed. It was overwhelming when I heard Jake's prayer; I was thankful and happy.

"And I was until my practice with Sunoo finished," I admitted while looking at my hands; I kept fidgeting and picking on my nails. Heavens!

"Heeseung, what's wrong?" Jake asked, showing more concern.

I took a deep breath and spoke—. "You opened up about Conah, your past, and what you've been through; thus, I considered it proper to share about my life, too."

"I talked about my life because it was necessary. I barely joined your team, and I needed guidance. But you shouldn't force yourself if you aren't ready," Jake sincerely said before holding my shoulder, causing me to look at him—. "Remember, I told you to take your time."
