I looked at the grown man before me—his hazel eyes and elegant appearance provoked the same emotions I felt when I first saw him. It was rage and disgust—a need for vengeance traveling through my soul. However, I didn't allow my impulses to take control; instead, I stared at his eyes, scowling at him and wishing for his end. The angel only laughed and approached my spot slowly. I realized he relished this moment; he wanted to see me here in my current state.
"I suppose we aren't friends anymore now that you know my long history," Governor Daehyun cynically spoke. Immediately, I scoffed and shook my head.
"We were never friends," I earnestly stated while forming my hands into fists.
"But we should have been, Jake. A Phoenix Angel like you is unique. Yang Jungwon isn't as peculiar as you are," Daehyun pointed out before smiling and looking around—. "This institute—the city—everything could be yours if you join me."
"How can you ask me to join you after you killed Conah? You attacked The New Order team at Evermore Forest—and the current demonic outbreaks are happening because of you. Everything ensued because of you! All of it!" I was resentful and shouted with my lungs and chest what I couldn't before. The pain inside me was more than I could bear, and my heart knew I had to regain control if I wanted to prevent a disaster.
"Conah. I remember his eyes and charming self. He was loved by many, and I 'do' apologize for his demise. But he was in my way," Daehyun talked nonchalantly about Conah, and I couldn't accept that. He had no right to be so careless about someone's life—. "And yes, indeed. Chaos ensued because I helped a friend get what he wanted, and in return, I would get my precious trophy."
"What do you mean?" I frowned, not following his words.
Daehyun chuckled before taking a deep breath, enjoying every part of our confrontation—. "You are the trophy. The Hollow Wings team was only a group of angels that helped me reach you. Something I waited so long to do. I told them to trust you and bring you to me because I deduced what my dear Aera schemed against me."
"I'm here now; you can kill me if you'd like. I don't fear you," I challenged Daehyun without hesitation.
Daehyun laughed and stepped closer. Immediately, I backed away and placed my hand on my sword's handle, keeping my eyes on him the entire time—. "I waited so long to kill you. That was the mission since the beginning, but the idiotic Guardian Angel stood by your side."
"And I always wanted to kill you after seeing how you took what I loved the most from me!" I angrily stated, my hand trembling due to my range—. "You had no right to take Conah's life! None!"
