Again I was disturbed by an annoying sound. Why couldn't I just sleep in peace? Just once? This time it wasn't Cha-Young but an annoying beeping sound. What the h*ll? I slowly opened my eyes and only saw white. D*mn ... Was I in heaven? Did I die when I got shot? Where are the hot naked guys then?
"Su-Mi?", I heard a voice coming from right next to me. It sounded like Na-Ri.
"Did you die too?", I asked, my voice sounding extremely croaky.
"No, you dumb*ss."
"But I'm in heaven and if you're with me, that means you are too. So, can you tell me where the hot guys are? If this is supposed to be my heaven then I want hot guys. Hot naked guys." I could hear her chuckle.
"Gee. What did they give you?" More chuckling. "Why do you think there are no hot naked guys, you dumb*ss? Because you're not dead. Duh."
"I'm not?"
"No."
"Then why is everything white?"
"Seriously, what kind of painkillers did they give you? You're at the hospital. With very white walls and very white ceilings. Try moving if you don't believe me."
So I tried to sit up and was immediately punished by a searing pain shooting through my abdomen.
"Mother f*cker", I sweared.
"See? You think you would feel this in heaven?"
"No", I replied and stayed still.
"Would you finally look at me, so I can see the face of my best friend and finally be convinced that she is alive and well?"
I slowly turned my head to the direction of Na-Ri's voice and looked into the teary eyes of my best friend.
"Jeez, are you certain we didn't die? Because you sure as h*ll look like it", I tried to lighten the mood. It wasn't working ...
"Could you be serious for just one d*mn minute?", Na-Ri said, sounding angry. "I'm used to you getting hurt, but this time was too d*mn close. You almost died. I thought I'd lost you", she said with a shaky voice. I reached out to her, she got the hint and took my hand.
"I'm sorry", I said. "I didn't mean to scare you."
"You don't have to apologize for almost dying, it's not your fault, but don't joke about it", Na-Ri said, pouting at me.
"Hey, it's okay. I'm okay now, alright? Stop worrying. I'll be more careful from now on."
"Promise?"
"Of course", I said with a little smile.
"Okay. But just to be sure, you're gonna stay with me after you get discharged. Till you're fully healed. And don't even think about talking your way out of this. Your psycho boss is still on the loose. I'm not gonna leave you out of my sight.
I gulped upon hearing about Han-Seok.
"Do you mind telling me what happened while I was out?", I asked.
"I can't tell you much. You should talk to Vincenzo instead. He's waiting outside by the way."
"Really?"
"Yes. He didn't move an inch since you were brought here. Han-Seo didn't either. Oh and Cha-Young is here too."
Then I remembered about Cha-Young. That she has been shot too, trying to protect Vincenzo.
"Right. How is she?"
"Oh, she's fine. Only got hit in the shoulder. It's like super painful but she will survive."
"I never thought that I would say this, but thank God she's okay", I said frowning, because I really was relieved to hear this. Weird.
"So? You want me to get Vincenzo and Han-Seo?", Na-Ri brought me back from my thoughts.
"Yes. That would be great", I said and smiled.
After a while Han-Seo came in, rushing over to my bed.
"Su-Mi! Thank God you're awake. Are you alright? Are you in any pain? Do you need something? Do you need me to get a doctor-?"
"Han-Seo!", I stopped his endless questions. He looked at me expactantly. "I can only answer one question at a time", I said chuckling.
"Oh right. Sorry."
"First: I'm okay. Second: I'm not in any pain as long as I don't move. Third: I don't need anything at the moment and lastly: No, I don't need a doctor."
"Okay."
"I'm glad to see you awake, Su-Mi", Vincenzo said, approaching my bed.
"Thanks. I heard Cha-Young is also here."
"And I'm in a way better condition than you, that's for sure", I heard a voice from the door. It was Cha-Young, who was brought in by Na-Ri, sitting in a wheelchair.
"I never thought I would say this but ... I'm glad you're okay, Cha-Young", I said, smiling at her.
"I know what you mean. It's nice seeing you awake and well too." She returned my smile.
"Now. Would any of you be kind enough to tell me what the h*ll happened after I played hero and saved that goof over there?", I asked and looked at Han-Seo. Then I noticed something. His hand. Holding Na-Ri's.Well, well, well. When did this happen? How long was I out? As I looked back into Han-Seo's face he was already looking at me, seeming nervous. I gave him a reassuring smile, which he returned with a relieved one.
Then The Gang filled me in on what I've missed. And let me tell you, that was a real life horror story.
