Chapter 53: Death

Natahimik ang lahat sa ginawa ni Lionel, at ito akong naguguluhan pa rin sa kung anong dapat kong maramdaman.

Not when a part of myself wants to get even.

But it's not like I can refuse him.

At least not in this situation.

Hindi ko na pinatagal pa at hinawakan ko na yung kamay niyang nakalahad sa harap ko, and he led me to the dance floor.

I tried to be as normal as possible, but I guess that was useless since I was staring in his alluring, onyx eyes. As if it was telling me something that he couldn't quite put into words.

"Have you been well?"

"Huh?"

I was caught off guard with his question, at tinignan niya lang ako kaya naman napaiwas nalang ako ng tingin.

"Yes, your highness.." Sumagot ako, as we danced with each other.

Everything was put into silence as he twirled me away from him, and when he pulled me back, he swiftly placed his hand on my waist. He pulled me even closer to his body that we were only inches apart, and as if it was natural, his hand slowly trailed to my back to support me.

And I simply followed his lead as he dipped me on the dance floor.

As breathtaking as it was for anyone watching the scene, I couldn't say that I felt the same when I saw Lionel's expression face to face.

How come his eyes looked afraid and out of place?

And that wasn't the first time that I saw it.

Nung araw na muntik na niyang patayin si Nilo.

He had the same expression when he rushed to my side.

At that time, I was still unsure of how I felt.

Pero ngayon sigurado na ako.

"What am I to you?" I finally asked him the one question that was troubling my heart. At mula sa posisyon namin, muli na naman niya akong hinatak papalapit sa kanya.

Standing face to face, he brushed a strand of my hair to the side. And he gave me an easy smile.

"You're someone I couldn't bear to lose."

Sa oras na binaba ng prinsipe ang kamay niya, nagsimulang magpalakpakan ang mga tao sa paligid namin. And so, we bowed to each other to properly end our dance and parted ways.

Agad naman akong sinalubong ng mga babaeng nakasama ko kanina, and they complimented my dance with the second prince. I took every compliment in stride, and when the next music came in, everyone's eyes were at the dance floor once more.
