Special Chapter - Han Jisung's POVA flashback to a day before Chan and Liverra's Wedding Ceremony
-
Hi, I'm Han Jisung. And I'm here to tell you the truth about humans, about people I handled during working at JJ's office.
As we got older, the world was no longer black and white. The world was no longer showing the colors we always wanted. After all, who said black means bad, and white means good?
There were times as human beings we were too idealistic. We judged people about good and bad they did but we always forgot one thing: We may do the same or worse when the same situation happens.
We treated other humans like they were not the same as ourselves. We put them in the highest standard like perfect humans when we also knew we were imperfect. And when we got the same situation, we would beg people to be understanding, calling them too much when they put that standard on us. When something bad happened, everyone reacted and did whatever it took to save themselves. Because humans were selfish. We were all selfish. And no one could truly understand us more than ourselves.
"2.75 dollars." A glass of Caffe Latte was put on my desk, breaking my afternoon thoughts. I squinted at that boy. "Tsk, I'm your friend. How could you?"
"You're rich." That boy, Enzo, replied curtly while sipping his Caramel Macchiato. He moved to his desk right beside me and started to work with his PC.
I laughed. "Alright, gonna transfer it."
"Haha, no need to. Just kidding. By the way, your friends came here– wait I forgot, like some days ago."
"Chan?"
"Yeah."
"With ?"
"Seungmin, and someone named Zach."
I sighed, I knew Chan would be curious about Liv. And he himself was detailed and thorough. No wonder he'd do the same to find out about something weird. "What did he do ?"
"He asked about Liv's one year absence, the culprit about that incident, and someone who stalked them at the family dinner. And the funniest thing is, they accidentally met Liv."
"Woah—" Such a coincidence. They were indeed soulmates. I knew Liv was also our client and also wanted to find out about the culprit. I understood how hurt to be suspected as the one who caused it, while she was also a victim.
"Chan saw her cry because at that time, we told her that she wasn't the culprit but the evidence is still not enough. I knew she was happy– and probably hurt at the same time. "
*ting*
"—Oh, wait." He checked on his phone, then to another file. His eyes bulged a bit as something appeared on the screen. "It's there!"
I quickly went to his desk and looked at his screen. My heart was beating so fast as I saw something I never expected to be real.
"Poor Liv, no wonder she was gone for a whole year. It must be traumatic."
Some videos sent from our investigation team. They successfully hacked the broken CCTV at the suspected place, and Liv was there with the same outfit she wore on the night she visited our old school. Body and head covered in blood. Hands and feet tied, mouth covered by a napkin. Some masked people surrounded her so the next thing we needed to do was analyze their movements and match them with some suspected people.
"There's a long way to go. And tomorrow is their wedding day. We won't tell them right?"
Enzo nodded. "Yes, JJ said the same. She told us to just continue the work and give them the information later. Probably for 2 or 3 weeks depending on the situation."
"Okay, can you send me the videos ?"
"Sure."
I got back to my desk as the file was sent, and for that whole day I would try to find out about some people around me that might have the similar movement as the culprit. This method was just the first move. And if one day we could catch the culprit, it would be sad, wouldn't it ? Because Liv was a victim of a selfish person either. And now, Liv was truly a different person, and understood that she couldn't force Chan to date her. But it was funny that her fate was being forced to marry Chan, even though some parties would be unpleasant. And the culprit now turned the situation, so that person will be the new villain.
"Oh— there's another thing. Do you know these girls, Ji? They are–uhm, Madelaine Hayes and Allina Ah-ram Miller."
Maddy? Well— I wasn't surprised since I didn't really like her either. But I didn't know if she was suddenly tied into this incident. But seeing Allina there surprised me enough. I never thought she was being mentioned together with that Queen Bee. "Yeah, Maddie's Chan's girlfriend and Allina's the secretary of our Uni's Student Association."
Enzo frowned. "What? He will marry Liv but have a girlfriend?"
"As I told you, it's a forced marriage, even though he doesn't seem to love Maddie as well."
"Ah, you're right." He nodded, but I knew he was still confused about what was happening to them. "Okay, more information?"
"Uhm— Maddie was a poor girl, but because of her beauty, also good achievement and grades, she won the students' hearts and also got a scholarship. Her dad got a job at a good company. I will say she's having a good time right now. While Allina is a nerdy but cool, really genius, wise, low-key having many fans. I don't know much about Allina's family but she was wealthy enough, judging from her belongings. It's just, what's the connection between them and the incident?"
"Look—" He showed me some screen captures of some videos of Maddie and Allina. "They were captured by public CCTV. Maddie seems to have just been walking out of her house an hour before the incident. We also got a witness : a cafe waitress near the school saw her around the edge of the gate with suspicious movements. Then in the next video, Allina came from another direction and talked to Maddie. I don't know what they're talking about. After that the CCTV's off, mysteriously. Even though we still haven't any evidence about their intention, you need to pay attention to them."
"Alright. Would you tell Chan, Seungmin, and Zach?"
"Just Seungmin and Zach. We'll tell Chan later after he broke up with Maddie. Because if Chan knew about this, I'm afraid he can't act well and ruin everything. This is also dangerous for Liv."
"I agree." I sighed while looking at the captures and also the crazy video that made my skin crawl. All of us—the JJ team still had a long task to analyze and reveal this justice. Not only for the sake of society— but this was about my friends too.
"By the way, Jisung, your friends still haven't known about you, right?"
I nodded, "Yeah– none of them know I have a part time job here."
