I woke up feeling a bit more tired than usual. I knew I needed to get up as soon as possible or else there was a good chance I'd fall back asleep.
The last thing I needed was to be late to school. I got out of bed and walked over to my closet.
I chose a cute but simple outfit to get my day going. I threw on a white off-the shoulder sweater with some jeans.
I brushed my hair out and did a half up-half down hair style leaving 2 strands of hair in the front. I put some light makeup and my jewelry before grabbing my bag and heading downstairs.
Maggie was up sitting at the table eating her usual bowl of cereal and watching TV. Buddy sat right next to her hoping she'd occasionally drop some food for him. I knew she must have missed the bus again.
Instead of getting her in trouble, I decided to take it as an opportunity to spend a little more time with her. I walked behind her and kissed the top of her head.
"Hi Bella. Can you take me to school?" She asked with her usual puppy eyes that always seemed to work.
I was beginning to get upset about the fact that my mother couldn't get her up and ready by the time the bus picks her up. The bus leaves before my mother has to leave for work so it just doesn't make sense to me.
"Yes, but we need to leave soon okay? Finish up so we can go." I said going to the fridge and packing my lunch for the day.
I made my usual 3 sandwiches and also packed some fruit. I fed Buddy and filled up my water bottle before remembering I needed to get my gym clothes.
I ran upstairs quickly attempting to find my gym shirt and shorts. Once I spotted them in my closet, I closed my room door and ran down the stairs.
"Okay Mags. We got to go now." I say grabbing her backpack and mine in one hand and her jacket in the other. I kneeled down and helped put her jacket on.
We walked to my car that was parked in the driveway and I opened the driver's side door to get it to start warming up. I then guided Maggie to the back seat helping her buckle her seatbelt. I placed our bags on the seat next to her and got into the drivers seat.
The drive to her school was a little longer than usual. There was more traffic than I had anticipated. I didn't need to pick up Iris today from her house though so I was good on time.
Iris had sent me a message last night telling me that she was getting dropped off at school. It felt a little weird to go without her to school. I got so used to driving to school together since freshman year. I got my license right at 16.
I quickly dropped Maggie off before heading to school. The car ride was a familiar routine now, the rhythmic hum of the engine with my music playing in the background lulled me into a state of semi-consciousness.
I realized that I was driving without really thinking and snapped back into consciousness. My mind wandered, drifting between thoughts of the long day ahead and the memories of my day yesterday.
As I pulled into the school's parking lot, I see Iris walking towards my car. I parked in my usual spot before she got into the car.
"Hey Isa. I know you're proud of me right now. Getting to school early." She laughs and hugs me.
"I'm really surprised you did. Even got here before me. Who dropped you off?" I asked.
"My dad. He had to talk to the principal so I didn't have to make up the detention." She says smirking. "Luckily, He convinced them it was all a misunderstanding."
