It's been a couple of weeks since Diana told me she wanted me to meet her parents.
My initial reaction to her telling me that was complete panic. Was it too soon? How would they react? Will they like me?
All of these thoughts ran through my mind in the moment. I feel she sensed my worries. She told me it was no pressure and that it was completely up to me but in the moment, I agreed to it.
I want to meet her parents. I want to see the people who created this amazing human being who I adore so much. I would love to hear a little about her life and how she was growing up.
Everything about Diana intrigued me, so knowing this personal part of her life was a way to understand her more as a person.
When I asked Diana why she suddenly had the urge for me to meet them, she sort of steered away from the question.
I had my ideas on why it was. She just told me about how her mother was getting a lot worse. I want to be there for her, so of course I was going to do this for her. I would do anything for her.
"Are you sure you still want to go?" Diana asked while she put our bags in the trunk of her car.
"I'm sure. I would love to go." I smiled stepping into the car.
We had a long drive ahead of us. Her parents lived a few hours north of us. I bought us snacks and coffee to keep us occupied during this long trip.
"You don't have plans with your family?" She asked while getting into the car and putting her seatbelt on.
"Not really. We never really do anything for thanksgiving. I usually spend it with Iris and Nate or stay at home with Maggie." I shrugged.
It was true. My parents hardly ever made holidays a big thing, not that thanksgiving should even really be celebrated anyways.
When I told them that I would not be there for a couple of days, they didn't really seem to care. I just told them I was going out with Iris for the holidays.
My heart felt heavy knowing I wouldn't be there for Maggie. I felt guilty for leaving her behind with my parents. I always tried my best to make holidays exciting for her but I wouldn't be there for her this time.
"What are you thinking about?" Diana asked gently placing a hand on my thigh.
"Oh nothing really. Just Maggie."
"Oh, sweetheart. Are you sure you'd still like to go? You don't have to, really." She looked at me and placed a hand on my cheek.
"I'm sure. I want to be with you." I smiled and leaned forward to kiss her lips.
"Okay, darling. Well it will be about 3-4 hours depending on traffic but it shouldn't be so bad at this time." She says as she drove out of the driveway. It was Tuesday night. She suggested that the night time would be the best time to go considering there would be less traffic. I offered to drive half of the way there but she didn't let me.
"I'm kind of nervous." I admitted, looking out of the window just thinking about it.
"Why?"
"What if they don't like me?" I sighed.
"Sweetheart, what is there not to like? You are amazing and so beautiful. I honestly couldn't care less what they think about you anyways." She tries to reassure me, placing one of her hands in mine.
"I know but I really want them to like me. What if they think I'm too young or something? Where will we say we met at? " I asked hesitantly. I didn't want to bring it up but it was a genuine concern of mine.
