chapter twenty three

Time seemed to have been passing by so fast. My days blurred into each other as I continued my repetitive cycle of school and work. There were some days that were better than others, but everything ultimately had been going well.

The following week after the fight, Diana managed to give the girls detention for "talking during class" but she didn't give much explanation to them. She made them sit in detention every day for the whole week just because. It was the best she could do.

I sat waiting for Elena to join me in the library. We still continued to do our tutoring sessions. After Thanksgiving break, we wouldn't have them anymore so we were getting the most out of each one.

Her skills had improved immensely since the first time we had met. She had good grades to begin with but her writing style completely changed and her grammar improved.

Elena mentioned to me that the reason she had asked for a tutor was because she wanted to mostly improve her grammar. Her first language being Spanish made it difficult sometimes when it came to the usage of certain words.

I sat at our usual table in the library scrolling on my phone before she sat down next to me.

"Hey girl." She smiled as she set her bag down on the table.

"Hey. How have you been?"

"Really good actually. Listen, I have a huge favor to ask." She began.

"What's up?" I asked sitting up in my chair.

"Do you think you could possibly help me set something up?" She said hesitantly.

"What do you mean?"

"I want to ask Iris to be my girlfriend. I have this whole idea in my head of how to do it and I wanted to know if you'd be willing to help me?" She asked with a smile on her face.

"Of course I will! What's the plan and when do you want to do it?" I was so excited to be apart of this.

"Well, if you don't mind. I was hoping we could skip our tutoring session and do it today." She looked at me with pleading eyes.

"Fuck it. Let's go." I said getting up and grabbing my bag. We made our way to my car and we both got in.

"Thank you thank you thank you! So, I wanted to do it today because this was actually the same day we started talking years ago. She might not remember it but I do." She smiled genuinely almost having a flashback of that day.

"Oh my god. That's so cute. So what's the plan!"

Elena and I set off to the store to get a couple of things that we needed to make this perfect. We also even included Nate in the plan. Nate's part would be to invite her to hang out after school, drive her to the location, and walk her to where Elena would be waiting for her at.

We arrived at a store, browsing the aisles for different snacks and drinks to put in a little picnic basket. Elena explained that she wanted to set up a little picnic by the beach. She had ordered these custom chocolate dipped strawberries that had "Will you be my girlfriend?" written across them.

"Here. Get this. This is her favorite." I say opening a fridge and grabbing her favorite soda.

"Thank you." Elena smiled and placed it into the basket.

She paid for everything and then walked out of the store to put everything in the car. She asked if we could make a quick stop at her house because that was where she had the picnic basket, blanket, and strawberries.

We got in the car and began the journey to her house. When we got there, she asked me if I could come inside and help her.

Elena's house was also very nice. She lived sort of in between Iris and I. It was a 2 story house with a huge front lawn. We walked up the stairs to her bedroom where she had everything laid out.
