"I'm going to beat you." You hollered back to your best friend.

"In your dreams Y/L/N." He skated past you crossing the blue line Throwing his hands up in victory, you waited you.

Slightly out of breath you skated across the blue line. "Since when are you so fast?" You huffed out.

"Since I got drafted into the NHL." He laughed at you.

The house was quiet and your mind drifted to your times spent with your best friend Jeff. It was getting late and your boyfriend still wasn't home. Must have taken the late shift again you think to yourself.

Going upstairs you took a quick shower, when you heard the sounds of whispers. Getting out of the shower you dressed quickly into leggings and a long sleeve shirt.

Your heart beat quickened as you crept toward the voices. Peeking around the corner you saw your boyfriend and some girl in a skimpy outfit kissing on the couch.

The late nights and distance between you guys lately made this not such a shock, but it still hurt.

You went back upstairs and packed up your stuff, fighting back tears. Everything was packed into two suitcases and a duffel bag, so it only took two trips to bring all of it out to the car.

On the last trip your boyfriend caught you, "Y/N, what are you doing?" his words were slurred.

"I'm leaving, we are over. Have a nice life." You held back the tears. He seemed unfazed by what you said and just continued upstairs with the girl.

In your car you finally broke down, allowing yourself to cry. Where would you go?

"So what's the plan Y/N?" Jeff asked you guys as you guys laid in bed together.

"Well I'm going to college and then hopefully find a job."  You explain to him.

"What college?" He looked over at you.

"Not sure yet. I'm taking a year off first." You tell him.

"You will always have a place with me." He kissed your temple. That was your best friend for you, so caring and sweet.

It had been a few years since you had seen or talked to Jeff, but you still had his address and it was only a 4 hour drive. That was the only place you could think of going. So you turned the key and pulled out of the drive way.

A few hours later you pulled up to the address you had saved into your phone so long ago. You began to regret coming out here.

What if he didn't want to see you, you left things on bad terms.

It was two hours until his plane left, and you didn't want to say goodbye. That night you guys stayed up all night promising to text and call each other every day and visit whenever we could.

"Sure you don't want to come with me." Jeff  asked you as you drove him the airport.

"Maybe." You laugh at him.

"goodbye Y/N." He kissed your forehead. "I put my new address in your phone. Visit whenever."

A few months later

Phone calls happened less and less and we didn't  text everyday either. Everyday you regret not going with him, but you couldn't just show up now.

The phone rang and you picked up. "Hello?"

"Hey Y/N." Jeff said on the other end.

"Hey. How are you?"

"Busy, listen sorry about not calling  or texting lately. Hockey has been busy and this girl I've been dating didn't like it."

You didn't answer right away, slightly hurt. "You let some girl stand between talking to your best friend?" You were angry now.

"Sorry." He said softly.

"Whatever Jeff. Don't bother calling me, I wouldn't want your girl getting mad at you."  You hung up the phone.

Finally building up the courage you knocked on the door. The door swung open and Jeff stood there.

"Y/N?" He asked. His hair was a mess and he wasn't wearing a shirt. There were slight bags under his eyes.

"Yeah." You breathed out. The two of you stood there awkwardly for a few minutes before he spoke up.

"Would you like to come in?" He asked scratching the back of his head.

"Yeah." You walked inside. Together you guys sat at the kitchen table. You spoke first, "How have you been?"

"Good." He paused for a second, looking down at his hands. "Why are you here Y/N?"

"I found my boyfriend cheating on me, I didn't know where else to go." Your voice was quiet.

"Oh. I'm sorry about that." He looked up at you. " I'm sorry Y/N for the way things between us left off."

You didn't know what to do so you got up and hugged him.

"It's okay. I've missed you." You said.

"I've missed you too." His breath tickled you neck.

You guys talked the rest of the night. You learned all about hockey and his team mates, you told him about college and how you're now working as a second grade teacher. He confessed to you he had feelings for you all this time, and asked if you wanted to stay with him. Agreeing within a heartbeat, you were just happy to have him back.
