"Babe? That you?" Kara called out from the living room at the noise of the front door closing.

"Yeah" A tired voice belonging to Kakashi responded, walking sluggishly into the living room and dropping heavily onto the sofa next to Kara.

Peering up from her ICHA ICHA book "Damn babe, you look like death! How was your mission?" she asked as she shuffled closer to him, pulling his mask down and taking his ninja headband from his forehead.

"Geez, thanks for the compliment" Kakashi replied with a smirk, leaning back into the sofa and closing his eyes. "Naruto and Sai ended up in hospital again but they will be fine. We were pursuing all the ninjas with kekki genkai that had disappeared from neighbouring villages but their trail ended somewhere in the Land of Earth. Tsuande is taking it from here, but someone is after those with kekki genkai." Kakashi opened his single onxy eye that softened when it caught Kara's blues, "Please be careful out there, they might target you next."

Kara's expression turned serious as she gazed back at Kakashi, her fingers gently tracing the outline of his Sharingan eye. "I can handle myself, you know that," she reassured him, "But you also should be careful, the Sharingan is just as likely to be a target as well."

Kakashi let out a sigh, his hand reaching up to cup Kara's cheek gently as he looked at her with genuine concern in his eyes, "I know you're strong, but I can't help but worry about you. You mean everything to me."

"Brushing her thumb over the beauty mark on his chin, Kara leaned into his touch, her gaze unwavering as she locked eyes with him. "You watch my back and I'll watch yours, okay? We will keep each other safe."

Kakashi nodded with a small smile, his thumb brushing gently over her cheek. "Deal," he whispered softly.

"Good, now go take a shower, you stink, and I'll make you some tea."

Kakashi chuckled softly at Kara's blunt remark and pushed himself up from the sofa, giving her a quick kiss on the forehead before heading to the bathroom. The warm water of the shower eased the tension in his muscles, and he couldn't help but think about how lucky he was to have Kara by his side. As he dried himself off and changed into fresh clothes, he could hear the sound of Kara bustling around in the kitchen.

When he emerged from the bathroom, the comforting aroma of tea wafted through the air. He found Kara setting a steaming up on the coffee table before nestling herself up in a blanket on the sofa again with her book in hand.

Kakashi sat down next to Kara, taking a sip of his tea before leaning back into the cushions, and raising his arm so Kara could snuggle up beside him. The two of them sat in comfortable silence for a moment, the only sound filling the room being the turning pages of Kara's book. Kakashi watched her with a soft smile, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over him for the quiet moments like these.

As the night crept in and the stars began to twinkle outside the window, Kakashi reached over to gently close Kara's book. She looked up at him, a question in her eyes as he set the book aside and turned to face her, his expression serious but gentle.

"Kara," he began, his voice low but steady, "I need you to promise me something."

Kara furrowed her brows slightly, sensing the shift in Kakashi's tone. "What is it?" she asked softly.

"I need you to promise me that no matter what happens, you'll stay by my side. I can't bear the thought of anything happening to you," Kakashi's gaze bore into Kara.

"As long as you promise the same. I can't lose you either Kash"

"I promise." He said before placing a soft kiss on Kara's lips.
