Kageyama Tobio.
That team is the Miyagi prefecture boys representative, Karasuno High School. You know that team.
There he is. That's your buddy.
You stare at them as Kageyama and the rest of the Karasuno team walk into the gym and onto the court.
Black hair and blue eyes was it, right? You have to look for black hair and blue eyes.
And let there be just one person in that team that truly has black hair. You spot him at the back of the line, looking in front of him as he walks behind his other team members. You can't see the colour of his eyes from where you're standing, but you're almost certain that it's him.
Number nine.
Holy shit.
It is him. It really is your buddy.
And he looks as stiff and stoic as he does over text.
"It's him," you bring out softly, feeling excitement fill your body now that you can see him. He's not only your imagination now, no, he's real.
You can't believe your eyes as you watch the court, seeing as his team stand still while various other teams get introduced as well.
"Wait, your buddy is from Karasuno High School?" Rin asks as she looks up, only now catching up with what you were mumbling. "Who is it? You never told me his name."
"Kageyama Tobio," you answer her, your eyes never leaving the court as you try to take a glimpse of him. You can't believe that you're actually in the same room as him now.
"Hey, I have been texting him for months!" she says with a gasp, "And I believe he has been talking about you! This dumbass added me to his team groupchat when he got stuck in a vending machine to get milk."
Your eyes widen, "His hand got stuck in what?" you ask like you haven't heard the other and more important words coming from her lips.
But then it hits you. "Wait, you know him?" you ask.
She nods, "Yeah. I was in a pretty setter group with him and a couple other idiots, like my brother. Me and Kageyama are pretty close friends. And as I said before, I think he mentioned you. He said something about his buddy. I never connected the dots until now."
You try to piece together all the information that you just got thrown at your face. Rin knows him... And not only him, she knows a bunch of other volleyball giys. And in the meantime while you and Rin were getting closer, Kageyama was your buddy all along? And he even talked about you?
What are the chances that your damn buddy was only two people away from you all this time? What are the odds that he is friends with your best friend's younger sister?
Yeah, what are the fucking odds?
✰
After the ceremony you make it downstairs to get to the hall where all the players are meeting each other after getting from the court. Some are chatting to their team, others are meeting up friends from other teams and a few are already leaving.
You, Kaiya and Rin try to make your way through the crowd to find the players from Inarizaki. But so far, your friends are nowhere to be seen. It doesn't really help that you and the other two girls are tiny.
And maybe you'll find Kageyama's team.
Hah, no. What if you won't see him and just run away from meeting him ever, now that you've seen him from afar maybe texting is better! Maybe seeing him won't be needed. He doesn't need to see your face! You know he's real, so he doesn't have to know that you are real.
