Oh, how pathetic to think that you were fine.
That you were really fine.
That you were over him.
As your eyes meet his dark blue ones, all the feelings, all the emotions, all the memories from three years ago; they all came back.
They come back like a fucking boomerang.
And the words that he once said repeat in your head like an annoying song stuck in your head, a song you can't get out how hard you try.
You inhale deeply and you straighten your back.
He doesn't fucking do anything to you. He's just an annoying guy from your past.
Why is he here? Why is he, of all places, here at the damn campus cafe? Somewhere he isn't supposed to be because he should be a professional volleyball player, not a university student in Tokyo.
Don't tell me—
He didn't make it, did he?
Hah, fucking loser.
You stare at him, taking in every feature of the guy that you once loved. Liked.
As if you would ever love someone like him.
Your eyes move over his face in shock. He has changed a lot, but at the same time he hasn't. He still has the same, cold expression on his face. His hair is similar, and so are the features on his face. The only thing that's changed is his height as he's just a few inches taller, and the fact that his face has matured and he looks more handsome than he did before.
He looks exactly like you remember him. And even though you hate to admit it, the image of his face never left your brain.
He's still the same damn guy that you once fell for.
"Get out of my way."
His words surprise you.
"What?"
"I said, get out of my way. Do I have to repeat myself?"
You're taken aback by the change of his voice.
Fucking hell Kageyama, if you weren't such a fucking asshole—
"I have no time for this bullshit, get out of my way."
"Do you fucking hear yourself right now?" you spit at him, your voice showing anger. Kageyama looks at you with furrowed eyebrows, the same cold look still on his face.
Does he still remember you? It's been three years, but you have changed a lot. Your hair is no longer brown like it used to be due to the numerous times that you've dyed it. The black you once threw in there hasn't left your hair fully. You've also grown a bit, and especially your body. You have matured, you're not the teenager anymore that you were three years ago.
You have also lost your spark. How you were once a happy, bubbly girl, you've changed. Now you're cold and you barely smile if it isn't for your friends making you smile.
So it wouldn't be a surprise if he doesn't even know who you are.
Kageyama doesn't speak a word for a little while, but then he speaks up.
"I said get out of my fucking way, Nakano."
The way he says your name with such disgust, it hurts. It fucking hurts, even though it shouldn't. But he still knows who you are. But how could he ever forget you? You were the first girl he's ever loved. Liked. Kageyama never loved you...
You feel sadness take over your body. You thought that you were over him, but you really aren't. You're still hurt by everything he has done, by everything he has said years ago. And the fact he's standing here and being mean to you reminds you of that time.
It was stupid to think that running away from your feelings and everything would really make you forget about everything. It was so stupid to think that.
"What the f—"
"Tobio," a soft voice says, making you move your head towards the side in shock.
There you see a girl around your height. She has thick, strawberry blonde hair. Her brown eyes look at the tall, dark haired male with care. She has round, curved eyebrows, and she has a nostril ring piercing.
"What is taking you so long? I thought you were ordering coffee."
Ok, maybe this hurts even more than the damn way this guy is talking to you.
"Nothing," he says, his eyes looking away from you. He brings his hand to her back, pushing the girl towards the counter softly. "Let's order coffee, Lore. I'm sorry it's taking so long, some girl walked into me."
You feel the tears in the corner of your eyes as those words leave his lips. What the hell are you even crying for? Over a stupid guy? You never thought that his words would hurt you so much, but with every word he speaks, it's like someone is throwing a dagger through your heart.
"Oh, okay," she says softly, then swinging her schoolbag over her shoulder. "I'll go look at the menu, then, for something to eat. I'm craving a snack."
She smiles and nods at you to say hello, then walks towards the counter with Kageyama following suit. He gives you one more look, one with his cold and dark eyes before his face softens and he stands besides the short, strawberry blonde haired girl.
He seems happy.
Something he never was, or seemed like, when he was with you.
✰
"Bro, you look fucking pale. Are you alright?"
You sit down next to Inuoka with your coffee in your hands. You don't look at him. Your eyes are focused on the chair in front of you, just at one spot. And your eyes don't move.
It's really him. He's really here.
Kageyama is in fucking Tokyo, at Tokyo University, the one place you never thought you'd find him. He has told you many times that he didn't want to go to university. He's told you that he doesn't want to follow any major, and that he just wanted to be a professional volleyball player.
So why is he here? Why is he here on campus, going to a cafe with a girl?
A girl that isn't you.
Not that you would want him, no. Never.
As if.
You sigh and finally look at your friend.
His eyes widen when he sees your shocked and pale face. "Holy shit, Riley. Are you feeling alright? You seem like you've seen a ghost, or even worse, see someone die."
A small chuckle leaves your lips.
"It's not far from the truth."
Yeah, just laugh the pain away, just like you always do. Pain is just an emotion, and you can shut those off.
"What?" Inuoka asks concerned. He looks at you worried. "What happened?"
"I didn't see someone die, but my soul just died a little back there."
