It's her.
The one person that Kageyama has been trying to avoid, successfully might he add, for years now. The one person he doesn't want to think about ever again.
So why is she here?
The guy watches you as you walk away from the counter after grabbing your coffee from the barista, the cold look still seen on his face. Even if it does something to him, he won't show it.
You seem out of it, to not register half of the things that happen around you, if not all the things. You seem like you've seen a ghost, but it was just him.
You're here at Tokyo University.
But what the hell are you doing here? He's left with many questions. Why out of all universities do you have to be here? And even if you're at the same, why does he sees you at the same cafe on campus. Out of ten cafes, he sees you in this one.
Kageyama takes his eyes away from you and turns around to look at the menu, scanning all the lines before it's their turn. He still needs to decide what he wants to order, but he was distracted. By a bitch like you. Ugh.
"What can I get for you?"
He looks down and is met with Yaku, the one who witnessed the whole scene unfold in front of him when he got back from his break.
And let's say he did not like it in the slightest.
"A caramel macchiato for me," Kageyama answers, then looking at Lore next to him. "And what about you?"
"Oh– um, a raspberry frappé please."
The black haired male nods. "And that one. Paying by card please."
Yaku nods back. "What's your name?"
"Kageyama."
"Ok, it will be ready in a bit."
Kageyama frowns when he looks at Yaku. The shorter guy is focusing on every step he takes, and he has no clue why. What the hell did he do wrong? Kageyama is sure that he knows him from high school, probably in his first year, but this short guy can't be mad at something about then now, can he?
He decides to let go of the unsettling feeling of Yaku's eyes and guides Lore towards the counter where they have to wait for their drinks. This position gives him the perfect view to look at you.
That fucking bitch—
"Who was that girl?" Lore asks Kageyama, her brown eyes looking into his dark blue ones. "It seems like you two know each other."
He shrugs. "No one important. We just... have a past."
Lore scrunches her nose. "And what is that supposed to mean?"
"It's her."
"Ooooohhhh," she mumbles, then looking at you. You're sitting at the table and slowly sipping on your coffee. You seem focused on something in front of you as your friend is talking to you.
"She seems nicer than the person you told me she was like. It looked like she was surprised to see you, and she's also really pretty."
Kageyama scoffs at Lore's words. "She is a bitch. There's nothing nice about her," he says with an eye roll. "So let's get away from here as soon as we can," he mumbles, his eyes on the counter. The next drinks aren't theirs yet, but he really wants to get away from this cafe and away from the place where she is.
Away from the place where the girl is that he once longed for.
✰
You never knew you could be this hurt by someone.
To be this hurt over him.
Hurt over fucking guy called Kageyama.
It's pathetic, really, to let him control your feelings like this. He's an asshole and he shouldn't make you feel this way. He shouldn't make you feel this hurt, you shouldn't cry over someone like him. But yet here you are, sitting on your bed as you hold a cat pillow in your hands, sobbing over the guy that was once your best friend.
Tears are falling on your lap about a guy that doesn't even deserve all the things you feel for him. Why are you crying about him now? Why didn't you cry over him in the past three years? Why are the emotions only coming back when he's back in your life?
It might be that one phrase, the one where they tell you "out of sight, out of mind".
Because that's exactly what happens to you and Kageyama. He was out of sight, and you didn't even think about him, not one time. For the past three years you haven't thought about him once.
That might be a lie, you did think about him some days but you didn't fucking cry about him. His face just popped up into your head and that was that, no feelings, no hurt, just some things that reminded you of him.
But no feelings.
He was out of your mind. You never once really thought about him more than a slight glimpse of his name in your thoughts, or an image of him in a split second in your brain. It was nothing more than that.
But now that he's back... Now that he's back here, at Tokyo University of all places where you thought you'd never see him again... All those feelings have come back. They came back like a fucking boomerang.
"Riley!"
You quickly wipe your face as you hear Haruko's voice in the living room of your shared dorm. "Where are you?!"
Then the door opens with a loud bang against the wall (oops). Your best friend's eyes widen when he sees you sitting there with the cat pillow in your arms, your eyes red and puffy, and your face looking as sad as ever. Your childhood friend runs towards you once he sees you and scoots next to you on your bed, wrapping his arms around your body to give you a tight hug. He places his hand on your head and pulls you towards his chest. You take in the familiar scent of his cologne, the tears that stopped starting to flow again.
"Oh my," he mumbles softly, his hand stroking your hair softly. He sighs and pulls you even closer towards him.
"Oikawa texted me," Haruko whispers, knowing damn well he shouldn't say it, but he's glad that the older male did, because there's no way you should go through this alone. "He wanted to make sure that you were doing okay, so don't be mad at him."
Haruko leans his head on top of yours with a sigh. "He's here, isn't he?"
You nod and grab Haruko's shirt in your hands, gripping onto it as the next flow of sobs are coming out of your lips. At this point your crying is so bad that you can barely bring out any words. His shirt is getting wet from your tears, but Haruko doesn't care about that. All he cares about is that you aren't alone when you let out your feelings.
"He's a fucking asshole," your friend mumbles, his brown eyes showing anger. He sighs as he holds you close, shaking his head repeatedly.
"I'm here, Riles. Just let it all out, it's been bottling up for too long now."
