Annabeth started to come too, her vision blurry, and forehead throbbing and soppy with warm blood, matting her blonder hair to her skull. Eye eyes rolled around taking in the confusing blurry landscape as she tried to pick herself up off the ground with shaky limbs. Her eyes rolling in and out of focus, she managed to see the smoldering wreck of where Will and Nico met their end.
She scanned the field, it was scattered with hundreds of corpses, and soaked in dark monster blood and dust. Annabeth fought her vision, trying to force it to focus and find her love. She could hear intense fighting, but she couldn't see where it was coming from.
She pulled herself up the boulder she had hidden behind, got her legs under her. She had to hold onto the boulder, her legs were weak, and needed support to hold her up. She looked around more, then she saw.
Flashes of sparks from sword clashes, fast movement that only looked like blurs, and glimmers of bronze before a clash of sparks. Her eyes adjusted again, and focuses on Percy. He was in a one on one fight with the god Ares. And it looked like it was pretty even.
But Percy was soaked in monster blood, and what looked like his blood too. He was slowing down, panting, sweating. Who knows how long Percy has been fighting. He had been single handily fighting an army since Annabeth had been knocked out. Now after an army, he was fighting the god of war, who hasn't fought until now. Ares looked intense, his teeth snarled as he swung and swung, only to be met with Percy's parries or blocks. Occasionally Percy would slash randomly at an open spot at Ares, disrupting the god and forcing him to end his attack and block before he got hit. Despite being extremely tired, Percy was putting on a masterclass of swordsmanship against the god of war.
Annabeth was fully back, her head throbbing, but her vision was better, and her strength returned to her. She ran to the fight with Percy and Ares. And Annabeth intercepted a slash from Ares, with her sword, letting Percy slash and strike the gods chest. Ares barked in pain, and golden blood spewed out. Percy kicked Ares back, then laughed at the god.
"Look at that..." Percy panted. "The god of war...bleeding..." he chuckled again, then looked to the sky. "I hope you all see this too! I made a god bleed!" Percy shouted to Olympus. The sky rumbled loudly in response. "Are you ok Annabeth?" Percy asked, as he kept his eyes on the kneeling god of war.
"Yeah..." Annabeth said. "A little dizzy, but I'm good."
Percy moved swiftly, Ares brought up his sword to block, but Percy slashed it out of the gods hand so fast. Annabeth couldn't even tell how Percy did it. Then Percy peeled off the helmet off of Ares, and looked the kneeling god in the eyes.
"You think you can win?" Ares said through gritted teeth.
"Yes I do," Percy said confidently. "But you gods are the lucky ones. I am letting you win. And I know you will never forget this." Percy leaned into the god. "If you ever mess with another child of Poseidon again. They might not react the same as me. Who knows... the next one could bring the fall of the gods along with them. I... am letting you... 'gods' off with a warning and a promise. Don't fuck with the children of Poseidon ever again, or you will know what true power is."
Ares growled loudly, and tried to stand. But Percy slapped the shit out of the god, making him spit out golden blood. Percy turned and ran to Annabeth, he grabbed her hand, and they retreated to up the hill to the spot where they married. Stopping just before the edge of the cliff. The island started to rumble, another army was being summoned by Ares. But that wasn't causing the intense earthquake beneath their feet. They watched their home crumble down into a pile of rubble, years of memories gone in an instant. Trees began to fall, rocks shifted lose and rolled down cliff edges. Their cliff began to crumble beneath them. Percy turned to Annabeth, who just looked at her husband.
"I love you," Percy said.
"I love you too," Annabeth said.
Then they leapt.
The campers threw us into the lake, my grip on Annabeth's hand loosened with the impact of the water. But I quickly grabbed it again, and formed a bubble of air around us as we slowly sank lower and lower into the lake. Annabeth kissed me, under the water in our tiny bubble. It was pretty much the best kiss ever.
"I told you we'd be together in another life," I said.
"When did you say that?" Annabeth asked, her lips gently parted from mine.
"I don't know..." I said confusedly as we held each other under the water. "But it felt like I waited a long time to say it."
