I woke up the next morning and headed downstairs for breakfast. I saw Nina standing there with her husband and I smiled.
"Patty!" He turned around and he grinned, spreading his arms open. I hugged him tight and I smiled. "Where were you?" "I had to work sweetheart. I heard what happened. I'm sorry."
"Thank you. I'm glad you're here." I said. "Yeah?" I nodded. I grabbed a cup of coffee and I sat down on the stool.
"Cora, I've got lawyers lining up. Don't mind me. I took photos of your bruises as evidence and I am going to submit them. You're gonna be okay."
"Do I have to give a statement?" "I doubt it. Your dad is still in the hospital. They have to do surgery. The glass went into his skull." "Wow. So close to death." I uttered, sarcastically.
"You'll be okay, kid." I nodded. Patty sat next to me and he frowned. "Why did you come to me, dear? I could have helped you." "He's relentless, Patty. I'm just glad El Is okay." "Are you?" "I will be when he goes." He smiled at me and nodded. "Okay."
Elora ran down the stairs and spotted Patty next to me. "Patty!" She yelled. "Hey!!" He lifted her up in his arms and placed her on the lap. "You're growing up so fast, kiddo."
"Cora has been feeding me lots." "Is that so?" I chuckled. "Gotta spoil my little girl some time." I winked at her. She blushed and tugged his collar.
"Patty are you staying?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'm here all day. You wanna spend the day with me?"
"Can you buy me a teddy bear?" "Elora!" "Hey, it's okay. Sure I will, kiddo. What about your sister?"
"I'm gonna go to a party. Liam's hosting one. Might as well use it as a distraction."
"Good enough. You've had a handful of Elora. I'll take your turn." Patty said. I chuckled. "Sounds good to me. Sounds good with you, kid?" She nodded and grinned at Patty.
"We're gonna have so much fun!" She said.
I smiled at Patty. He was a tall man with a strong physique. His real name was Patrick but when I was small I could never pronounce it so I ended up calling him Patty.
He worked in real estate and they were rich people but it was hard for Patty sometimes. He had to travel because sometimes the agents refused to do the work. He was very kind and optimistic. He cared a lot about me and Elora and they were like my family.
I have loved Patty since forever. Whenever I scraped my knee or fell from the swing, he'd pick me up and kiss my booboos goodbye. He was a father to me compared to that good for nothing skunk in the hospital.
Without this whole family where the fuck would I be?
Kelsie walked down the stairs and she saw her dad.
"Hey, dad. When did you come in?"
"An hour ago. I missed you." "I missed you too." She kissed his cheek and grabbed a cup of coffee. "Cora, are you feeling better now?" "Well, with the news Nina gave me, yes."
Nina's phone rang and she took it outside.
"Is this a Kelsie and Cora day?" Kel asked. "Yeah, Patty wants to hang out with the little rascal so I'm free today." "Great! We gotta go shopping!" "You have a lot of clothes, darling." Her dad said.
"But-"
"Kelsie-" Nina entered the room again and she smiled at me.
"I got news for you, dear."
"What is it?" I asked, turning my full attention to her.
"Your dad will go to jail. But there's a chance they'll grant him parole. Afterall, he is an important man."
"But he's going away?" I asked, standing up. "Yes!"
I gasped and I covered my mouth. Oh my god. Was this real? Was he actually going away? I looked at El and I smiled. "Did you hear that? Daddy's going to jail!" I said.
"Really?!" She jumped off Patty's arms and ran around the room. Kelsie wrapped her arms around me and I sobbed. "You're free, sugar." I nodded. "Finally."
Nina and Patty hugged me tight as well and I closed my eyes shut. "Thank you, thank you so much."
"You're family too, mi amore. Don't ever forget that." Nina uttered. I nodded and I wiped my tears away.
"So...can I move into my house?" "You can."
"What about the money?" Kel asked.
"Don't worry. They'll transfer you the money from his account for support." "Oh, thank god." I sighed. I grabbed El and I hugged her tight. "We're going home, kiddo." She nodded and hugged me tighter. "Finally."

Patty left with Elora and Nina went to work. I packed my bags and I got in my car with Kel.
"You're excited?" She asked. "More than anything." "You deserve this. Freedom." I smiled and started the car.
"I can't believe he's really going. It's like a blessing." "It is a blessing. For years you've been trapped and now, you're free! I'm so happy for you both." "Thank you, Kel. Your family is amazing." "Our family." I smiled and nodded.
I pulled over at my house and I got out. I stood by the front yard and I sighed, seeing the broken glass everywhere. I walked up to the front porch and I opened the door.
"It's such a mess." I said, gasping. "Yeah I was gonna clean it up but I had to get dicked down. I figured we'd do it together." "You're an enigma, Kelsie." She giggled.
We spent the day cleaning, playing music in the background to keep us occupied. I went up to my room and I tidied it up before leaving for Elora's room.
I noticed the frame I had broken over his head and I picked it up. It was another picture of the both of us, in a meadow when we went down to Kansas with granny.
We were really young that time still and I never left granny's side the entire trip. I took the picture and I kept it in her drawer. I arranged her bed and I cleaned up her room before exiting it.
I went down and grabbed a drink from the fridge. Kelsie walked in and she wiped the sweat off her forehead as it trickled down.
"That was a lot of broken shit." She said.
"Daddy's strength."
"Are you sure you'll stay here?"
"Yeah, he's not here anymore. I can live freely." I said, downing my drink. "Well, let's just hope the bastard never comes back." I nodded.
"Even if he does, the first thing I do is make El run. She'll be safe. Especially with you."
"What does he even want?"
"I don't know. When I told him I had to go to college, he blew up into pieces and told me he didn't want me to leave. That I could have as much fun here as I would there."
"Maybe he wants something from you."
"What? My kidney? My liver? No thanks. Let his alcoholic self rot on the pavement. I don't care." "We should just kill him." "You don't know how many times I've thought about it. But I can't have El look up to me and then tell everyone "you know my sister killed daddy." I mean that's fucked up."
She chuckled. "Point taken. Let's just make the most out of the time we have rid of him." I nodded. "Yeah, hopefully if he comes back, this time I'll be ready to run."
