I drove back to the apartment and I tossed my keys into the kitchen counter. I sat down and I hung my head in my hands. I felt a little tug on my sleeve and I turned to see El smiling at me.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
I looked at her and I couldn't help but capture the mental image of her and how she was two years ago. She looked like an angel even when she was mad.
Her tears glistened of purity and I knew I'd put her up through hell on my behalf. But at the moment all I could do was take care of her and possibly kill her parents.
I nodded and smiled. "I'm just tired, sugar."
"Do you want to eat something?" "No. Just pass me that bottle of alcohol, that'll be great."
She stared at me and she shook her head. "Anything but alcohol. I can't relive it." I blinked at her and I understood the tiny reference to my father. I clenched my jaw, regretting I even told her.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"I know you're tired, Cora. You've travelled for years but I'm here now. And you have me."
Exactly. I have you. I've put Caleb through so much bullshit just to find Elora. And I never really put forward what he wanted. What did he really really want?
I bit down my lip and I smiled. "Yeah. I have you now. I'm never letting you go again, kid." "Don't."
Caleb entered the room and he smiled at us.
"Ah! My two girls are back together. I love this reunion." I chuckled and he approached me. He kissed my cheek and I smiled.
"Caleb?" "Yeah?" We looked at each other in absolute pure love until we realised we had a kid staring at us. I turned to El and she raised her eyebrows.
"El, why don't you settle down in your room."
"I have a room?"
"I came all the way from New Jersey to not have a room for you? Go. I need to talk to Caleb."
"Sure." She grinned at Caleb and she ran off.
"She's grown." "Yeah. I hate it." I chuckled.
He sat down and he tilted his head.
"What is it, my love? I know you're bothered by something. I can't quite put a pin on it." I pursed my lips and I sighed.
"Caleb, we've been around the country, doing my thing finding the kid, and never did I even once put forth what you wanted. I'm selfish, I know. But I hope it's not too late. I want you to tell me what you really wanted."
He chuckled softly and cupped my cheeks.
"Honestly, getting away with you was all I wanted. I hated school. I hated my mates. Liam was a pain in the fucking ass. But I always pictured I'd be the person you'd run away with.
When I was a kid, I fell in love with you. I never wanted anyone else but you. But I had no chance. Mostly because I made you hate me. And fucking around with girls became my thing. To fill up the void.
But I always wanted to run away with you. Tell my parents to eat my shit and we'd get on a train and ride to Europe. We'd live in Spain or Portugal and I'd hopefully let you fall in love with me.
And when I saw what your father did to you, I figured you'd wanna run away. I'd do anything to make it happen. And we made it happen. I got my dream, Cora."
I looked at him lovingly and I smiled. "You're incredible. I'm so lucky to have you with me." "I'd say the same but you took my line so, yeah."
I chuckled and cupped his cheeks. "I love you so much." I kissed him gently and I hugged him tight.
