"How do you feel?" Caleb asked, as we drove on the highway.
"Better. So much better. You?"
"I feel great. It's been crazy. Hectic. Insane."
I chuckled. "Yeah, it's been kinda a rush, huh? I put you through a lot."
"Nah, I like being in that zone. It's fun, it's exciting." I smiled. "I'm glad you think that way."
He drove down into our neighborhood and I furrowed my brows. "Why are we here?" I asked.
"I want to show you something, sweetheart." He smiled.
He pulled over a house and I looked at it. "Wow, real classy. I wonder why they didn't turn on the lights." I frowned. He took my hand and he smiled.
"Don't worry. We will." "Huh?"
He chuckled and got out of the car. I watched him round the car and stand on my side. He opened the car door and held out his hand. "Come on."
I chuckled and I took his hand.
"You look beautiful tonight, Cora."
"But it was murder night, I had to improvise." "With that dress, I'm surprised I can even control myself." He smirked. I giggled and he locked his hands with mine.
He opened the door and he led me inside.
"Wow, this is incredible!" I said, looking around at the high ceilings with chandeliers dancing and a large stairway paving way from the side.
I looked around me but Caleb was gone. I frowned.
"Caleb?" I walked to the other room and it was a large dining hall with a long table and candles unlit. I felt the mahogany on my fingertips and I smiled.
"This is beautiful." I whispered to myself. I crossed the front door and I walked to the other side of the house. It was the living room, with plush red covers and a glass coffee table.
The fireplace stood by, with brick wall designs. Little empty photo frames stood on the mantle, waiting to be filled with memories.
I bit my lip and scanned the other room which turned out to be the kitchen of course. The granite marble countertops were amazing to look at even in the dark.
The dishwasher was sitting there, ready to be used. All the appliances were there and I only ever wondered if we were breaking into someone's house.
I noticed the backyard with lights from a distance. I couldn't make out what it was so I slid the door open and stepped outside, pressing my heels on the grass.
I got on the pavement and I walked towards the light.
It turned out to be Caleb, staring at the forest under heavy rice lights that glowed like a thousand suns. He placed lilies all over, along with rose petals.
He stood on a platform, which seemed to be higher from where I stood. I stopped at the foot of the stairs and I smiled at him as he stared up at the moon.
"Beautiful night isn't it?" He turned around and he grinned at me.
He approached me and he offered his hand. I took it and walked up the stairs onto the platform.
"What's all this?" I asked.
"You didn't think I'd forget our two year anniversary did you?"
I chuckled. "No." I looked around me and he had also lit candles of various sizes around us. I smiled.
"You did all this, for me?" I asked. He nodded. "Of course. I wanted it to be special." I smiled and I wrapped my arms around him.
"This is so sweet, honey. Thank you so much."
"You saved me, Cora. From everything I could fear of. You saved my life. Showed me a purpose. Be kind. Be just."
I smiled. "This is what we do. We heal each other, Caleb." He smiled back and nodded. "Yeah. And I wanna do that for you forever."
I tilted my head and stared at him.
He sighed and licked his lips. "Cora, I could make it even more special. But I know that even with anything I give you, it'll make you happy. And I wanna keep you happy with whatever I got. You found me in my dark place and I shut you out so much, hurt you and you still forgave me for what I did. And love me for who I am. And I love you so much Cora."
I smiled. "I love you too, Caleb. But it doesn't matter if you give me a bigger gift. I already have the biggest one. It's you." He smiled and pressed his forehead against mine.
"You're my Everything. You are my world. You give me peace and joy and without you I am nothing. I have spent 14 years of my life trying to confess my love for you. I'm not gonna spend another 14 for this. So Cora..."
"Yes?" I asked, pulling away from him a little.
"I want you. Much more. I want you more than a friend. More than a lover. I want you as my wife."
I gasped a little as he let his hands go off me. He knelt down and he dug into his pocket. He pulled out a little box and opened it.
"Oh my god..." My heart sank as I looked at the blue diamond ring in front of me.
"Caleb..."
"Cora Smith, I love you so much, I wouldn't ever hurt you. I'd protect you with my life as you do for me. So I am asking you, will you marry me?"
At that moment, everything in my life flashed before me.
The first time I met him was when we kissed on my 4th birthday, when he knocked me to the ground and kissed me again in the playground. To him apologising for Liam's behaviour and then punching my dad in the face.
It terrified me. How much we had been through together was incredible.
He had fought for me, by my side, together. We had been through so much worse than we anticipated and it turned out glorious.
He protected me from Liam, protected me from everything that could hurt me. And he loved me from the very beginning.
He was the love of my life. And I couldn't even want anything else.
Here he was, on his knee, smiling at me and holding out the ring. My heart thundered. It was everything I dreamed of.
We spoke about kids but never about marriage. We talked about living together. Not as husband and wife. And we spoke about the future. Not as a married couple. It was insane.
I bit my lip and tears welled up.
"Yes." I uttered.
He grinned and slipped the ring into my finger. "Yes! Finally!" He uttered, wrapping his arms around me. I chuckled as the tears streamed down my face. He looked at me and his face was drenched as well.
I smiled at him and he pushed my hair aside.
"I love you Cora. And I will do all I can to make you happy."
"You already make me happy, Caleb." He smiled and kissed me lovingly before hugging me again. I closed my eyes as he spun me around under the moonlight.
He set me down and he tilted his head.
"I don't know what I'd do without you, Coco."
I chuckled and cupped his cheek. "Incredible things, my love." He chuckled and pressed his lips against mine softly.
"Is this the house?" I asked, looking back at the tall structure.
"Yeah. Patty showed me this and I didn't want anything else. I wanted to surprise you."
"It was amazing, my love." He smiled and kissed me again.
"So are you."
