We sat together for a while before I fell asleep on the couch again. We cuddled next to each other, letting the time pass us by. I would've been awake had he not fucked me into sleep.
I told him to anyway.
The doorbell rang and I woke up. I got off the couch and Caleb rubbed his eyes. "I bet that's Liam." He said. "I guess."
I opened the door and Liam grinned at me.
"Hey, sunshine! How are you?" He picked me up off the floor and carried me inside, kicking the door shut. I giggled and he set me down in the living room.
"Caleb is still here?" He asked.
"Yeah, he didn't wanna be alone at home so he stayed." I smiled. "Well, at least you weren't all alone." I nodded. He sat down and he took my hand.
"Are you feeling better?"
"I am." I smiled. He pulled me down and I sat next to him. "Okay, let's do the assignment?"
"Bro, cut her some slack!"
"I did!"
"It's fine, Caleb. I need this too." I smiled at him. He glared at Liam and sighed, looking away.
"Alright, let's see..."
We worked for the next two hours before I took a break and fell back to the couch.
"Caleb?" I called out.
"Yeah?"
I got up and followed his voice. He sat in the kitchen, eating grapes.
"What's wrong?" I asked. "Nothing. You guys were busy and I didn't wanna intrude."
"What? Bullshit." He looked up at me and he sighed. "We'll talk about it later, okay?"
I stared at him and he did too. I looked away and I clenched my jaw. "Hm."
I walked back and he grabbed my arm. He pressed his lips against mine before letting me go. "Good luck." He uttered. I smiled and nodded, walking back to Liam.
I sat down and Liam looked at me. "We're almost done. Just one more question. Do you wanna do it for me?"
"You handle it. I'm exhausted." I said, leaning back. "Alright. Good team work." He said. I smiled at him and nodded.
He rubbed my back and smiled at me. "I know it sucks with everything that's happened but I really do wanna apologise for the past too."
"No, Liam, it's okay. It's-"
"No, Cora. I know I've been shitty and I hurt you too. Caleb and I did. But I really care for you. It's no joke. I only want good things for you." I smiled and took his hand.
"It's okay, Liam. All is well. It's forgiven and forgotten. We can move past it."
"So, that's it? No hate?"
"After everything? No. You're my friend and I'm grateful for that." He chuckled and wrapped his arms around me.
"Thanks." I took in his cologne and I sighed. Fuck not again.
He pulled away and he had a hint in his eye. I stared at him and he rubbed my knuckles gently. I bit my lip and I got up, patting his hand.
"I guess I gotta take some rest." I said.
"Yeah, me too. I gotta head back home."
"Okay."
"Is Caleb staying?"
"I think he might leave soon." "Okay I'll text you later." I nodded.
He let himself out and I sighed, falling back on the couch. I closed my eyes and shook my head, exhausted. I felt hands on my thigh and I looked to my side to see Caleb next to me.
"Finally he's gone." Caleb utters.
"You don't like him anymore."
"No. No I don't." I stared at him and I looked away. Fuck. I was what I feared I was gonna be. A wedge.
**
I sat on the couch spinning my pen in my hand. Caleb sat next to me and looked at my work.
"I hate school." He said. "Me too."
"There's a good chance I may never go to college."
"What about the scholarship?" I looked at him. "Possibly won't be able to help me out."
"Oh, man." I sighed and frowned.
"What about you?" He asked.
"After both my parents are gone? No chance. I'm gonna either have to run or find a job, asap."
"This fucking sucks."
"I might take up on your offer and run." I said, leaning on him.
"Baby, don't tempt me. I will do it." "So will I." I smirked.
He laughed and wrapped his arms around me.
"What's the deal with Liam?"
"He can really mess with your mind."
"Believe me, I know. Handling the two of you for so many years is nothing surprising."
He laughed. "Maybe. But even so, it's unpredictable what that guy can do."
"Well whatever it is, I'm sure I can handle it." I smiled.
"Yeah, I'm sure you can."
I nodded and looked away out the window.
"I gotta go home and change. I'll be back later. You'll be okay?" He asked. "I will. I guess I'll just take a nap for a while."
"Cool. Call me if you need anything." I nodded. "Okay." I smiled.
He walked out the door and I sighed, shaking my head.
What the fuck just happened?
