"El, how's your old school again?" I asked, crossing my arms.
"It's fine. I met my bully. He'd still a bully but we're good friends." I rolled my eyes. "Alright." I pulled away from the lot and I tapped on the steering wheel.
"Where is Caleb?"
"He went to look for houses with Patty. I'm gonna have to look for a job too." "Oh, yeah, well, dad had alot of money we can borrow."
"Borrow or steal?" I asked.
"Okay, don't be mad, but after you took me back there to get the papers, I took money."
"How much?" I asked.
She shrugged. "A lot. It was in a safe. I knew the combination. Birthdate. Anyway, it's in my suitcase in a secret compartment."
"He had a safe?" I asked pathetically.
"Yeah, in case of an emergency."
"Well he's not gonna be needing it at all. I heard they've shifted him and mom to a ward. They'll be in a home for the differently abled. Comes with amnesia." I winked.
"So what was the reason they had broken... parts?"
"Well, I had to make sure it made sense. So I staged it. An accident. It was easy. People can be very easily fooled."
"Wow." "I'm not encouraging this behaviour. I know how shitty it has been these past few years and because of that, I learnt it the dirty way. You have freedom now, kid, what do you wanna do with it?"
She thought for a while and then she looked at me. "Incredible things." I smiled and ruffled her hair. "I already know that, kid."
I pulled over at Kelsie's house and we walked inside.
"Nina, I'm back!" I called out.
Patty grinned at me as he walked to the living room. "Patty? What are you doing here? I thought you were out with Caleb?"
"Yeah, he had to go do some work. I don't know what."
"Did you find any houses?" "Well, we tried but Caleb has a very particular eye. I smiled. "Yeah, he does."
He sat down and he looked at me.
"Come here dear." I walked to him and I sat down.
"What's up, Patty?" I asked.
"Are you okay?" He asked. I chuckled. "Yes, I am, I'm happy now Patty." He smiled and patted my hand.
"I was worried sick about you all this time. I know it was tough but I'm glad you're here now." "I am too, thank you so much for everything you did to help me and Caleb."
"Cora, you're like my daughter. I've known you since you were a kid. I wouldn't want anything else bad to happen to you again." I squeezed his hand and I smiled.
"Thank you, Patty. That means so much to me." I hugged him tight and I smiled. "I gotta go. Can you tell Kelsie to meet me at the usual diner? I think she's still busy, she's not responding."
"Of course." He smiled.
I got up and I stood at the bottom of the stairs. "El? I'm going out."
She peeked her head out the door and looked at me.
"Where?"
"Well, I thought I could have a reunion. Wanna come? I know you haven't seen Liam in quite some time now."
"Oh! Sure!" She rushed back into her room and came out, changed. "Where are we going?"
"Somewhere nice." I smiled.
