I pulled over at Caleb's house the next day and I blew my horn for him to come out.
"Now, move to the back seat." I looked at Elora as she fiddled with her seatbelt. "What?" She asked.
"You had your day yesterday. Come on."
"Fine." She rolled her eyes and climbed to the back seat. I realised she'd been mirroring me. Rolling my eyes and proceeding to do as told. I smiled a little.
Caleb walked around the car and got in. "Good morning my ladies!" He said, grinning at the smiling kid behind. "Caleb!" She said, wrapping his arms around his neck from the back.
"Hey, kid. You missed the movie last night."
"I know, please tell me how it ended!"
Caleb smiled at her and turned to her. "Well, in the end, his family realised that music was really important to the little boy and they let him live out his dream."
"You're great at telling stories, Caleb." I smirked and pulled away from his house.
"I think it's good enough. His whole family didn't like music because it reminded them of the grandad. If you think about it, it's a very dark movie and they show it to kids."
" 'Coco' is dark? I think El has been through much worse than a dark movie." I snickered. She giggled behind me and Caleb rolled his eyes. Hmm. Guess I'm not the only one with the rude habit.
"Well it was dark for me. The dude killed his partner."
"I'll agree with you, only so you can stop talking." I smirked at him. He scoffed. "You both gang up on me and possibly want to kill me."
"Caleb if we wanted to kill you, you'd have been dead long before the kid was even born."
He smirked and looked away from me.
"I bet you still hate me, huh?"
"After the stunt you pulled yesterday, you're glad I'm not throwing you out of my car." I said, in a stern voice. Honestly I didn't mean to sound like that but the thought of it and the tone in my voice really joined forces.
"I would explain if you let me." He looked at me.
"It's fine. I'm not really fond of explanations. I've had my handful with that all my life. If you say it isn't some competition. Then it isn't and I'll not think about it. It's fine."
He stayed silent for a while. I looked at him for a second and I sighed. "Stop giving me the baby silent treatment. I don't know your intentions, Caleb. But if you are genuine about it I will accept it. If you say you're there for me. I accept it. Because you know I'll do the same for you and forget about the past."
"Really?" I looked at him and I smiled. "Yeah. You've turned out pretty useful to Elora and...me. So I'll take my chances and keep you around much longer in case I die."
He snickered. "Glad to be of service."
"You both have been really annoying to be, Caleb. If I'm completely honest I would possibly tear you both apart and find a pack of wolves to eat your flesh. But you both stopped and it creeps me out."
"Creeps you out?"
"Yeah, this isn't your normal thing. You both take time out of your day to hurt me and suddenly you smile at me and defend me. It makes no sense at all. It's like someone's paying you to be nice."
He laughed hysterically.
"Listen, if someone's paying you to be nice to me it's okay. I take my chances with you. At least I know I have a friend."
