Niall's POV

Why the hell was Skylar avoiding me?

Every time the gang had gotten together, she'd clearly gone out of her way to avoid me, only talking to me when she had to, with words like "Hi" or "Hey" or "Bye."

So what was up?

I knocked lightly on the flat's door. Eleanor's head of brown waves popped out. "Hey boys," she said brightly.

I was with Liam and Louis. Zayn and Harry were out with Jenna and Sierra on a double date. "Hi," Liam said, smiling. "Are Dani and Sky here?"

Eleanor's face clouded. "Dani's here. Skylar and Ashlyn are out. Ashlyn's with her little friend she met a few nights back."

A few nights back. The night of the club. The night where things went awry for Skylar and I, for reasons I have no idea why.

I bit my lip. "So Skylar's tagged along?"

"It's all right, El, you don't have to lie for me," Skylar said from behind the door, sighing heavily. "Let them in."

Eleanor's expression was unreadable as she opened the door fully and Louis made a beeline for his girlfriend.

Dani was sitting on the couch with Skylar leaning against the banister of the stairs. "Hi," Dani said, smiling at us.

Skylar didn't say anything.

"Hi," Louis said brightly. "How's my girlfriend?" he asked, sliding an arm around Eleanor's waist.

"Fine," Eleanor said awkwardly, glancing at Skylar, who shrugged.

"What's wrong?" Liam asked, grasping the seriousness of the situation. He and Dani locked eyes, and realization filled him. "Oh."

"What?" I asked, as I watched him and Louis glance briefly. Louis flushed.

"It wasn't my fault," Louis said indignantly.

Skylar rolled her eyes. "So it was you?" she asked Louis tightly.

"Louis agreed to it," Liam explained.

"Will someone please tell me what's going on?" I asked angrily, finally realizing that Liam and Louis knew why Skylar was avoiding me. Did Harry and Zayn know too?

All eyes flew to Skylar, including mine. She shrugged. "Guys, chill, it's fine. I'm over it."

Eleanor's eyes were worried as she looked at Skylar. "Are you sure? You didn't seem over it earlier today."

"I didn't think your idiot boyfriend would make a stupid decision," Skylar said. "But it's fine. What's happened has happened, and I'm fine."

Then she turned and walked upstairs.

I knew it was time for me to intervene. "Wait a second," I snapped, feeling more frustrated. "You aren't leaving until I get an explanation."

"What's there to say?" she asked finally, and I could see nervousness written all over her face.

"Can you explain to me why you've been avoiding me?" I asked bluntly.

"It doesn't matter," Skylar said. "Because I haven't been."

I laughed. "Sure you haven't."

Skylar's face turned red and swallowed. "Fine. Come here." She turned and walked upstairs, and I followed here, well aware of the fact that the room downstairs was dead quiet.

When we got to Skylar's bedroom, she sat down on the bed. I stood awkwardly in the doorframe, unsure of what to do.

"Don't just stand there like a blithering idiot," she snapped. (Quoting Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter). "Sit."
