Skylar's POV

I was outside for the first time in days. Sunlight streamed down. Birds were chirping. The sky was blue.

And unfortunately, so was my mood.

I shifted the hold on my purse and continued to walk down the street, not making eye contact with anyone. I stepped into the familiar surroundings of my favourite coffee shop, Starbucks.

I got into line, and only spoke to the barista when it was my turn. "Tall iced green tea, sweetened."

She nodded and punched in my order. 5 minutes later I was on my way again, sipping my drink as I walked down the warm, sunny streets of my hometown.

Everyone had scattered, the boys had returned to the tour, Ashlyn had gone back home to Chicago, Eleanor had returned to London with Dani to prepare for the arrival of her kids, Sierra had gone with the boys, and it was just Jenna and me living in our shared flat.

It had been a month since...the incident, as we were all calling it. I hadn't spoken to either of my former best friends during that span.

I wasn't doing too well. I'd been in and out of rehab, as my friends were concerned about my attitude and were determined to get me back to my old self.

But I'd told them time and time again my old self was long gone. There was no getting her back. The old me had gone through way to much to ever be the same again.

The buzz of my phone interrupted me, and I answered to a voice I hadn't heard in ages. "Hey, Tiffany."

"Hi, Skylar, how are you?" she asked softly.

"I'm fine. Who told you?" I asked, sitting down on the bench with a sigh.

"Twitter," she admitted.

"I should've known. I deactivated it, it was getting crazy." I took a sip of my drink.

"No kidding, I felt so bad for you. Just so you know, Niall's an idiot."

I smiled slightly. "Thanks, but there's nothing I can do about it now. He...made his decision a long time ago, and I have to get over it," I said, sighing heavily.

"Hey, I know you and the gang have split up, but if you ever want to come back to Huntington," I heard Keaton say, "you're welcome to it. You know, take a break from everything."

I smiled. A vacation sounded like a great idea. "Am I on speaker?"

"You are," Tiffany said.

"Well, in that case, I will take you up on that offer, Keats," I said. "And how is my favourite power couple?"

I heard the two laugh. "Awesome, and we have to thank you for setting us up," Tiffany said. "Even if it was for selfish reasons at first."

"It wasn't really selfish," I said, blushing slightly. "I thought you and Keats would make a good couple, is all."

"And were you ever right," Keaton said, laughing. "I'm glad you did it."

"So when are you coming down?" Wes yelled. "We wanna see our skater girl!"

I flushed. "I don't know, I'd have to ask Jen--" A thought occured to me. "Hey, if my roommie lets me go, can she come?"

"Sure, the more the merrier," Drew said.

"Is it Jenna?" Tiffany asked.

"Yeah," I said. "She may find love over on your end, considering as we're both heartbroken and depressed at the moment."

"Yeah, she sounds dope, yo," Wes said ecstatically.

"Wait, I thought Jenna was dating Zayn," Tiffany said, confused.

I stood up and headed back to my flat. "Well, Zayn broke up with her. He's back with Perrie, from Little Mix."

"Oh," Keaton said. "That sucks."

"It does, but we were able to nurse each other back to...well, close enough to where we used to be, anyways," I said, sighing.

"I'm really sorry," Wes said quietly.

I swallowed. "So am I."

"Well, come over here and we'll make sure you have an unforgettable time," the four of them said.

I laughed. "That was so rehearsed."

"I guess," Drew said. "But kind of spontaneous."

"JUST COME!" Tiffany said. "I need some girl time alone from these chaotic boys!"

"HEY!" the boys yelled indignantly.

I giggled. "You're on," I said. "See you soon."

"BYE!" they all yelled.

I hung up, in better spirits than I'd ever been in weeks. I opened the door to see Jenna on the couch watching TV with a glazed look on her face.

"Jen?" I questioned.

"Hey, Sky," she said, sounding distracted.

I set my bag down and glanced at the TV screen.

"The boys of One Direction are hard at work at their world tour after taking a break in Ireland to watch Niall Horan take part of a close friend's wedding..."

I reached over and turned the TV off. "Stop moping, if I can get over him, so can you."

Jenna sighed. "I guess. What's up?"

"Tiffany called," I said.

"Why do you sound so happy?" Jenna asked.

"Do you wanna head to California for a week or two?" I asked, beaming.

She stared at me. "Are you serious?"

"Dead," I nodded.

She hesitated. Then she smiled. "Hell yes."

"Let's get packing, I'll buy tickets and let Tiff know we're coming," I said, and the two of us rushed off.

Maybe this would be the start to a great summer.

Emblemers don't have to worry since you'll see a lot more of E3 in the rest of the book.
