Niall's POV
"This is ridiculous!" Vanessa said, and almost burst into tears. "Why won't she wake up? The doctor said she would soon!"
"Calm down," Carter said, smoothing down her hair.
Skylar had been transferred back to Ireland, and for the past few days, the shipping company had been shipping her things from Toronto to Mullingar, where the wedding was to happen within less than two weeks.
Eleanor and Louis were back in London, rushing around to finish up preparing for their baby's arrival. Liam and Ashlyn had called it quits about a week after Skylar's second accident, and Dani was still off in Australia, or God knows where.
Harry and Sierra had gotten back together, and Sierra had really changed for the better. She was so much kinder than she'd been years before. Jenna, El and Lou's lawyer from their trial, had found love with Zayn, and the four of them were in London as well.
I was still with Tiffany, but lately we had hit a rock in our relationship. She was convinced I loved Skylar more than her, even though I'd tried to tell her otherwise. Her counter was that I'd been spending all my time watching over Skylar.
I'd gotten pissed off and told her to F off, which offended her, but I assumed she'd gotten over it, because within 24 hours she was back at my house apologizing profusely.
I wanted Skylar to wake up. I wanted her to. I needed her to. We had to talk about this.
I knew lying to Tiffany wasn't the right thing to do. But I couldn't just break up with her. What if that whole 'I love you' situation with Skylar was a fiction of my mind? What if I'd just imagined it? What if she didn't really feel that way about me?
"Are you all right?" I asked quietly.
"I'm fine," Vanessa sniffed.
Ashlyn pushed the door open. "Hey, how's she doing?" she asked.
"Not bad," I said, shrugging. "No change at all."
"Well no news is good news, right?" she asked, forcing a smile.
Ashlyn and Tiff were still not on speaking terms, and it was really rough between the two. And also really awkward.
"I guess," I mumbled.
Carter stood up. "I saw her move," he whispered.
The three of us stood up as well and walked to her bed, standing around her.
"Give her a little space, guys," I mumbled, and we backed up a bit so that we weren't crowding her if her eyes opened.
I started counting. 1, 2, 3, 4....
583 seconds later, her eyelid twitched.
"I see it," Ashlyn breathed.
We all sucked in our breaths.
I began counting again.
But this time, I didn't have to wait as long as before.
Exactly 38 seconds later, I saw a familiar pair of blue eyes staring up at me.
"Skylar," I said happily.
"Carter." Her eyes focused on him. "Vanessa."
She locked eyes with Ashlyn, and her gaze flicked to mine.
The air whooshed out of me and she smiled.
"Niall."
