part 70. april showers bring may flowers

april showers bring may flowers. that's the saying some people go by. after the dreary rain of april passes, it brings beautiful flowers in may that can brighten the world up a little more.

in violet's case, she hasn't been feeling great for the past few days since the harry styles show they went to. it started off as post concert blues and now it's turned into slight stress over knowing they want to plan a trip to go to ohio next month. ashton knew she was feeling off again today, so while he was at the grocery store, he picked up a bouquet of flowers to cheer her up.

when he was out, he stopped over at lisa's music store to invite her over for dinner tonight. the same time that luke, calum and michael would also be there. wanting to arrange dates and times for going to ohio together. plus violet wanting her aunt there in case her mom decides to say anything hurtful to her or ashton.

at home, violet is in the living room, laying on the sofa asleep. she'd had a shower not long ago in hopes it would make her feel better; it resulted in her being tired and accidentally falling asleep instead of setting up the dining table as she told ashton she'd do.

it's only once ashton gets home, making noise with his grocery bags and taking his shoes off that violet stirs slightly. he goes to the kitchen first putting away the food and drinks that he bought for tonight. now only holding a bouquet of tulips in hand.

he walks into the living room, seeing violet looks very cosy with a fluffy blanket covering her while she sleeps. he sighs, sitting on the edge of the sofa, brushing her hair off of her face before caressing her cheek softly with the back of his hand.

"baby," he whispers, trying to wake her without startling her. she hums quietly, opening her eyes slowly. "hi, my love, how are you feeling?"

she nods, noticing the flowers in his hand, "you got flowers?"

"thought they might brighten your day a little," he holds them towards her.

"they're beautiful," violet takes them from him, looking at the pretty pink and yellow colours. "thank you."

she moves to sit herself up, shuffling closer to ashton to give him a quick kiss before leaning her head on his shoulder. she reaches to take his hand in hers, linking their fingers together as they sit quietly for a moment. in that time she glances up at the clock on the wall, seeing it's coming up to 5:45 pm. their friends would be here soon.

"i didn't realize i was asleep for so long," violet chuckles. "guess i was more tired that i thought."

"that's okay," ashton reassures. "you needed your sleep."

"but i was meant to get everything out for the table," violet sighs. "and tidy up from yesterday."

ashton shakes his head, standing up as he keeps hold of violet's hand to pull her up with him. he leads her to the kitchen, lifting her up onto the counter once they're in there. he takes the flower vase from the counter, filling it with water. turning back to violet for her to place the flowers inside of. after placing the vase down behind him, he leans on the counter where violet is. hands either side of her.

"feeling okay with talking about ohio soon?" ashton asks, tucking violet's hair behind her ears.

"yea, i think so," she smiles unconvincingly.

all that's been on her mind is about seeing her parents when they go back. specifically, ashton meeting her parents. it's horrifying to think about. what are they going to say to her? what are they going to say to him? will they say hurtful things about the way he looks? about his tattoos? about his clothes? so much could go wrong.
