"why can't we come with you?" calum complains as violet sits on the sofa tying her shoes.
"you only wanna come to meet their dog," violet shakes her head. "plus i just want them to meet ashton."
ready to leave to go and see violet's grandparents, she's hoping for a better experience than she had with her parents not long ago.
her grandparents have always been kinder, more supportive, so nothing should go wrong. they texted violet a couple of days ago, asking if they could either come over to rose's house or if they wanted to go there. specifically so they can meet ashton.
they were very excited to find out violet had a boyfriend, much more exited than her parents were. they'd asked rose for pictures previously before everyone was here, as well as wanting to know how long they'd been dating for.
and now they'll get to see them together.
ashton doesn't want to admit that he's nervous about this. only because of the experience he had with violet's parents. as much as she tells him today will be different, he still worries.
rose walks into the living room, handing her car keys to violet after having decided to let her drive herself over to their grandparents house.
"look after my car," she widens her eyes. "if i see a single scratch—"
"rosie, your car will be fine," violet raises her hands in defence as she stands up. "ready to go, baby?"
ashton stands from the couch, nodding his head. they say their goodbyes to their friends, rose and lisa for today, leaving the house with a single bag, their phones and some money.
violet unlocks rose's car, climbing into the drivers side as ashton sits in the passenger side. the first time since they met that ashton is in that side of the car.
"is today when i find out you're a crazy driver?" ashton jokes as he buckles up his seatbelt.
violet rolls her eyes, clicking her belt into the slot, putting the keys into the ignition to start the car, "i'll have you know i'm a very safe driver," she puts the car in reverse, getting off of the driveway. "does feel weird with me driving though, seeing as you're always the one driving."
ashton would've answered, but he's too distracted looking out of the window. watching where they're driving, seeming to be heading in a different direction to where they've been before.
after they've been driving for at least twenty minutes, there's more open space, a few less buildings, some fields here and there. it's intriguing to him to see the area's violet grew up in.
as you neared your destination, you notice ashton's leg bouncing up and down. not that he hasn't done that before, it's just usually when he's thinking about something.
"you know this isn't gonna be anything like with my parents," violet reaches over blindly, finding his hand to link with hers. "i know it was a lot with them, but my grandparents are very sweet people, i promise."
"and i do trust that," ashton takes a breath. "just don't want anything else hurtful being said to you."
"is this really about me this time though, ash?" you look over at him as you stop at a red light. "you seem too anxious to only be worrying about me."
you keep driving as the light turns green, starting to turn into smaller housing areas.
"maybe what your parents said hit me more subconsciously, so now we're seeing more of your family..."
"bubba," you frowned. "why didn't you tell me? we could've talked about it before leaving."
"you were excited, i didn't wanna ruin that."
