It was weird—coming back to visit a home with welcome arms you originally robbed a month or so ago.

Domenico closed the door behind him and allowed me to walk through the space. I would never get over the fact that he had such a beautiful home, which looked all the more homier now that light seeped through the open mansion.

"The bathroom and bedroom's upstairs, the private gym is on this floor behind the pool and the kitchen's right down that hall," he said, "just whatever you do, try not to steal anything. I had a robbery a few weeks ago and it was kind of annoying."

I slapped his arm with a teasing frown, watching with a smile as he barked out a laugh, "You're unbelievable."

"Just setting down house rules, bunny," he nudged my arm teasingly. "Help yourself to anything, I'm just going to be in my office for a bit."

I gave him a nod, watching with satisfaction as he held my bag over his shoulder, walking up to place it in his bedroom once he let a yawn flutter out of his gaping mouth.

He had a lot of trust in me.

I didn't want to annoy him—not now at least since I got a hint of whatever the fuck he was up against last night. His face was drained of life and if anything I wanted him to at least have a decent sleep to replenish his energy levels again.

His mansion was gorgeous, and I did not bother wasting a second to standing around and pondering about. Everything was modern—sleek and stiff that it felt somewhat uncomfortable to be around. The walls were monochrome, consisting of dark colours whilst everything else looked like something out of a 1900s comic strip—black and white.

In other words, it was depressing.

Lacking colour.

I wondered around aimlessly, walking through a maze of a mansion that served to be one of the most stunning pieces of fine architecture. I loved every nook and cranny I managed to walk past, yet I hated how unnecessary everything was.

"Why?" I read out my thoughts as I walked into one of the lounge rooms, eying the huge sleek aquarium that stretched within the wall that connected two rooms together.

The pool was stunning, and so was the gym that served to probably be one of the main rooms of interest in his home. Big—spacious enough for a work out I'd die to do but I had to quickly leave once my thoughts wondered to the idea of the gym being used by him.

Eventually I got bored and made my way back upstairs to the office, where Domenico was currently at. Taking cautious steps across the indoor balcony I lowered down. The door was just ajar, the crack big enough to peak in to find the man slumped back in his seat, staring down at his laptop in front of him.

Stress painted his face with monochrome colours of frustration. He looked fatigued.

"Domenico, it wouldn't hurt to tell me what's wrong," I spoke, stepping into the space with caution. I knew he'd never lash out at me, but his expression and body language only called for underlying anger.

He looked up at me with gentle eyes, "You really want to know?"

"Not really," I muttered, watching him swivel the chair to face his body to me, spreading his legs. His hand patted his lap and I made the move to sit on it.
