I trailed behind San as we quickly made our way to the kitchen. When we reached the hallway that led directly to it, I expected to hear the usual chaotic pandemonium I'd come to expect from my strange comrades. At the very least, I figured I would hear one of the boys yelling at  another, but the further we drew to the threshold leading into the kitchen, I realized I could not. 

I did, however, pick up on a deep, oscillating frequency that reverberated oddly in the air. I didn't have words to properly describe the sound, the closest thing I could compare it to being the low drone of a steam engine. Or, perhaps, a distant rolling thunder echoing across the water, it's sound distorted by distance and time. The strange humming set my stomach churning, warbling in the air like a groaning spirit, causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand on end.
