(Ominis Perspective)

I waited for Sebastian in the library. He had said he wanted to talk, so I came straight here after my conversation with Helena. I sat at my desk, fingers tapping rhythmically against the dark ebony wood. I glanced at the watch on my wrist, already twenty minutes late. He knew how much I hated waiting. He was probably doing this just to piss me off.

Ten more minutes passed. Still nothing.

Then I heard footsteps outside the door. He burst in with his hands in his pockets, strolled in like he had all the time in the world, and dropped into the chair across from me. He slung one foot over his knee and crossed his arms. His expression was unreadable.

Before I could even open my mouth to scold him, he said it.

"I told Helena I loved her."

Just like that. Like he was talking about the weather. He dropped it like it was nothing, like he hadn't just flipped everything upside down.

I froze. My mind went blank. My throat clamped shut around the words I wanted to throw at him. He just stared at me, emotionless, waiting for me to react.

And I did.

Rage simmered through my veins. My jaw clenched, and my fists tightened on the edge of the desk. Then I slammed my hand against the armrest, knocking the chair backward as I shot to my feet.

Sebastian's posture shifted immediately, he could tell I was about to lose it.

"Ominis, don't—" he tried to stop me.

Too late.

I flicked my wand and sent the chair flying across the room. I was on him in seconds, backing him into the bookshelves, pressing my wand to his throat.

He raised both hands in surrender. "Ominis, I'm sorry. I didn't plan it. It just... happened. It was a moment of happiness, alright? The first one I've had in a long time. It felt so damn good to finally say it, to mean it."

I pressed my wand harder against his skin. "And how did she respond?" I asked coldly. "Don't lie to me, Sallow. I'll know if you do."

His eyes dropped. He looked pale.

"She didn't believe me," he said quietly. "She asked me to say it again... and again. Then she turned to look me in the eye and asked once more. I told her I loved her... and she didn't say anything back."

I stepped away from him, finally lowering my wand. My heart was pounding.

"Merlin, Sebastian..." I muttered, adjusting my jacket. "What were you thinking? You know what she's been through. And you, you just blurt it out like that?"

He looked at me, a deep frown creasing his face. "You think I'm trying to ruin your relationship?"

"What else am I supposed to think?" I snapped. "I'm your brother. I gave you space, I gave you time, I gave you permission, but now you're pushing her again? After everything?"

Sebastian stepped forward, gripping my shoulders, his voice trembling. "Of course I'm happy for you. You think I'm not? But you don't understand, Ominis. Try standing where I am. I had her, then I lost her. Then she came back, and I lost her again. She kissed me before Azkaban. She told me she loved me. I've been holding onto that like a lifeline. We never really ended it, there was never closure. And now she's here again, and I'm just supposed to pretend it means nothing?"

I shoved his hands away and turned back to the desk.

"You did end it, Sebastian," I said. "You just don't remember. You were drinking, probably out of your damn flask again, and you gave her that stupid Hemingway line."
