(Ominis perspective)I sat on the warm sand, waiting for Helena to return from her dive into the water.
All day, my mind had been a storm, trying to figure out the right way to say what needed to be said. I'd talked to Garreth about it, he understood. He had my back. Anne, on the other hand, only wanted what was best for Helena. And to her, that meant having both Sebastian and me in her life.
Helena stepped out of the water, her face thunderous as she kicked at the sand. She muttered to herself, scowled, kicked again. But when she looked up and saw me, her expression softened. She walked over and collapsed beside me, curling into my arms with her back pressed against my chest. We watched the sun dip toward the horizon, casting gold across the lake.
"Where were you?" I asked softly, brushing her wet hair from her shoulder.
"I went to the lost ship... with Sebastian," she sighed.
"Did something happen?"
Another sigh. "I wanted to... kiss him, Ominis."
She held her breath.
"Breathe, darling," I whispered, stroking her arms. "It's alright. I'm not mad."
She turned in my arms, curling into me.
"And? Did you?" I asked.
She kicked the sand in frustration. "No..."
"Why not?"
Before she could answer, Sebastian walked out of the water, holding hands with Adelaide.
Helena's whole body tensed. Her skin burned hot beneath my touch. Goosebumps rose along her arms.
"I know," I whispered. "I know, love..."
I held her tighter and kissed her temple.
Sebastian approached us. "I..."
"Go away, Sebastian," I cut him off. "Now's not the time."
"I just wanted to say thank you, for sending Adelaide to me, Ominis. She's always been the love of my life. I'm glad she found me again. We can pick up where we left off."
He turned and walked back to her, planting a kiss on her lips.
Helena trembled in my arms, her magic pulsing through her skin. She was trying so hard to hold it together. We both watched in stunned silence as Adelaide practically climbed into Sebastian's lap, giggling as she tugged at the waistband of his swim shorts.
I gently covered Helena's eyes. "Let's go home, darling."
She nodded, quietly seething. I helped her stand and wrapped my arms around her to keep her steady. She dressed in silence, magic still simmering around her.
Suddenly, a boy approached Adelaide, and Sebastian shoved him into the sand.
"Don't come near my girlfriend!" he snapped.
Helena pulled out of my arms and snatched her wand from her bag. She stormed toward them, wand raised.
Adelaide laughed in her face.
Sebastian glared. "What are you going to do, Fig? Kill us for being in love?"
Adelaide cackled. "Don't be jealous. You had your shot last year. You blew it. He's mine now."
"You two are a joke," Garreth snarled as he appeared beside us. "You deserve each other. Psycho and fucked-up, the both of you."
Sebastian turned on him. "Don't talk to my girl like that! She's kind, sweet, and powerful, stronger than any of you. She's the most powerful witch at Hogwarts. She's mine, my kindred spirit."
