Ominis had just stepped out of the house when I turned to Anne.

"What should I do?" I asked her quietly.
"Follow your heart, dear. Only you can decide this," she replied with a gentle smile.

I looked over at Sebastian "And you? What do you think?"

He crossed his arms and sighed "It's not fair for you to ask me that, I'm one of the options," he said as he sat down and began eating his bacon.

I pulled out the chair beside him and sat down.
"Please... just tell me what you're thinking. It matters to me."
He took another bite and replied, mouth half-full,
"You already know what I think about all this," then looked down at his plate while eating his sandwich.

I reached out, gently taking his chin and lifting it so he would look at me.
"That's not enough. Tell me."

He furrowed his brow, eyes locking onto mine. He didn't speak. He just watched me.. his gaze moving across my features, lingering on my eyes, tracing the freckles on my face, my nose, cheeks, lips, and then drifting lower to my throat, my necklace, and the rapid rise and fall of my chest.

My heart was pounding so hard I feared it might leap from my chest.

Then he looked back up into my eyes and said "Break up."

He grasped my wrist, gently pushing it aside as he stood up and walked into the living room. I hurried after him "Why? Please just tell me, look me in the eyes and tell me!"

He stretched to reach something from the top of the cabinet and turned toward me, holding a small black box "Open it," he said.

I took the box carefully in both hands and slowly opened the lid.

Inside was the stunning black onyx ring we had admired together in Keenbridge.

He pointed to it.
"That's all I want, sweetheart. Nothing else. You're enough to make me happy. So yes, maybe I'm being selfish, but after everything I've endured, I think it's my turn to fight for what I want. That ring can be yours, tomorrow, next week, in a year or ten? I don't care when you ask. Just know it's waiting."

My eyes shifted between the ring and Sebastian.
"You're sure about this? About me?"

He let out a soft sigh, stepped closer, and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"I love you, Helena Fig Ambrose. What I feel for you isn't complicated. I know you struggle with trust, especially after what Ominis did last night. But I swear, with both our hands on my heart..."

He guided our hands to his chest.
"I want you. I'm that fairy tale prince you dream of. I'll give you that house by the sea, sunflowers, peonies, smart and beautiful kids, late-night conversations in the garden. Just believe in me, butterfly. Stay with me. I won't let you down again."

Anne, now beside us with tears in her eyes, scolded playfully,
"Sebastian, you hopeless romantic you're making me cry too."
We all laughed.

I turned to Sebastian with a soft smile.
"Tell you what, Sallow. Tonight, our date will be about starting a new chapter."
He smiled back. "That's a promise, Fig. Let's begin again."

We embraced, and Anne joined us for a group hug.

Later that day, I found myself nervously stepping through the gate of Gaunt Manor.

I had to see Ominis before my evening with Sebastian, before we began anew.

I searched the entire house, his study, the living room, the bar, kitchen, dining room, every room in the yard—even the rooms Sebastian and I shared. But he wasn't there.
