(Sebastian's perspective)If apparating were allowed at Hogwarts, I wouldn't have hesitated for a second the moment I heard Helena was in the infirmary. I had two choices, run up the endless stairs to the hospital wing or take the closest Floo Flame. I decided not to waste energy and made my way to the one in the courtyard.
When I stepped into the hospital wing, I was immediately met with loud chatter and high-pitched arguments. On the left side of the room, Adelaide sat upright in a bed surrounded by two nurses, and across from her, Helena reclined with three nurses tending to her. Both were bickering non-stop as the nurses tried to heal them with spells and bandages.
I took a few steps closer, half-amused by the chaos. Adelaide spotted me first and smiled, but just as she called out my name, only "Se—" came out before her voice cracked into a loud, humiliating chicken squawk. Helena burst out laughing. A nearby nurse hushed her while wrapping her arm in gauze.
"You absolute mandrake, Helena! What the hell did you do to me?!" Adelaide yelled, her voice half-panicked.
"One of the perks of being a skilled witch, Oakes," Helena said with a smirk. "Enjoy life on the farm."
Adelaide turned to me, eyes welling up. "Sebastian—" She tried again, but it ended in another deafening cluck. "Help me! She turned me into a chicken!"
My eyes flicked from her to Helena, who met my gaze with a look that dared me to intervene.
Helena grabbed a bottle of Skele-Gro and tossed it at Adelaide, hitting her squarely in the cheek. "He's not your knight in shining armor, you idiot. Get over it." Adelaide screamed, enraged.
"Ladies, please!" one of the nurses snapped. "If you don't calm down, we won't be able to treat your injuries!"
I walked over to Helena's bed, scanning her body for wounds. Most were already sealed with magic and stitching, only bruises and scars remained. But her arm... that was a different story. It was badly broken, the bone jutting awkwardly under her skin. It was painful just to look at.
She gave me a soft smile. "Hi."
"Hi," I said back, kissing her on the forehead as a nurse stepped away for supplies. "What happened?"
She gently took my hand. "I was heading to my dorm to change before going to my vivariums. And that psycho pushed me down the stairs!" She pointed toward Adelaide.
"It was an accident!" Adelaide barked defensively.
"Don't lie, Oakes! You tried to transfigure me into a Mandrake and couldn't handle the counter-spell. So you shoved me instead!" Helena snapped.
I couldn't help but chuckle, Helena was furious, and somehow it was adorable.
"What did you do to her?" I asked, stroking her hair.
Helena grinned. "She's farm-bound now. Go ahead, Oakes, say Sebastian's name again."
Adelaide crossed her arms, glaring. "Screw you, Fig!"
Helena giggled. "I cast a special charm. If she says your name, she squawks like a chicken. Maybe next time she'll think twice before messing with me, or my man."
That last part made my chest tighten.
"Say that again," I said.
Helena looked up at me, blinking as the words registered. "My man..." she said slowly, confused by her own phrasing, then smiled. "My man," she repeated, more sure this time.
"Come here, Mrs. Sallow," I teased, cupping her face and kissing her hard. From across the room, Adelaide groaned in disgust.
"Mr. Sallow!" one of the nurses shouted. "Step away from the patient immediately, you're aggravating her injuries!"
